I have used Memorex CDR's in the past to record music and other things on, and I never had a problem with them before. I usually use whatever CDR's are on sale. I have never had a problem with any brand that I've used, and I have used at least five brands besides Memorex.

Recently I purchased the 50 pack Memorex CDR's because they were on sale. I went through several of these discs, trying to record some songs on them to play in my car. (Thought it was about time to change the CD's in my car). At first I tried copying to this disc from iTunes. iTunes would begin burning the disc, but stop partway through the first track. An error message came up, and the computer spit out the disc.

I then tried burning a playlist from Windows Media, and it refused to burn the disc. I tried opening the CD drive from My Computer and burning files to the disc that way. This did not work either. (The computer told me to insert a blank disc. It was like it did not recognize it as a blank disc, even though the discs that I tried were all blank).

I decided to right click on the disc in My Computer and view the disc properties. When I did this, I discovered that this disc showed 0 bytes of free space and 0 bytes of used space. I went through and I checked all 50 discs, and they all showed 0 bytes.

I know that the problem is not my burner because I had one HP disc left over from the last pack of CDR's that I used. I tried that one, and it worked fine.

All 50 discs were junk. Even though I had never had a problem with Memorex before, I don't think I'm ever going to buy CD's by that brand again.

Price looked good. Last time I buy because of price.

These are the worst disks I've purchased. The first 6 out of 9 disks failed. These suckers are going back.

I would first check your burner--with another brand of CD. Then, if the problem is with the CDs, return them. Staples stands behind their merchandise.

The only thing that I can think of is that you got a bad batch on the second time. It's been known to happen. I've had it happen too.

              • Q:

If I only need to burn music, and am looking for good recordable cd, does it need to say music in the product title. For example do I need to buy the "MUSIC" cd-r or will the redular cd-r work just as well? I only plan to record once per cd, and need to listen to it in different cd players. I basically want to make a 'mix tape' from my cds and listen to it in my disk-man, my car, or my cd player. What product should I purchase?

                • A:

I've used both CDR's and CDR Music to record music, and I do not know of any difference.

I listen to burned CDR's on CD players and in the car -- I've never had a problem with playback with either kind (just CD-R or CD-R Music).

The only CD-R's I've ever had a problem with are my recently purchased Memorex ones.

I do this all the time and use the Memorex CD-R. They work great. Good luck.
