If you have a tower computer with USB ports on the front panel that are connected to the main board via a cable inside don't connect the BD drive here. Instead connect the drive to 2 USB ports connected directly to the main motherboard or a PCI USB card. There is probably a excessive voltage drop on the front panel. My BD drive worked fine using the USB ports on the rear of the computer. The included software plays DVD and BD disks well. I have other software to write disks.

I found this product easy to setup and I was able to use it right out of the box - even without using the included software. I have a laptop that is currently running Windows 7 (64-bit) and I used plug and play. I was able to drag and drop files and the product burned the files onto a Blu-ray disc with no problems. I went ahead and installed the included software and I had no problems with it - I had the features I needed without any need for an upgrade. I was even able to play a DVD with the product with no problems. However, in order to connect the product to my computer, I had to use two USB ports on the computer.

Set up was quick and easy on my Laptop. Wiring is short, uses two usb ports. Plugged both usb's into my hub. Windows recognized writer as soon as I plugged it in. Burned backups of the kid's movies in Blu-ray and DVD. Must upgrade Software to burn Blu-ray. But I already had it. If you don't then $39 for the Ultra Package is much less than buying it.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate, fast processor and great graphics card. The software won't even play a blu-ray DVD, and all I get are ads to upgrade to a more expensive program to do anything. The Cyberlink software included is a rip-off. It won't even play a regular DVD. If I could. I would return the unit but it is past the time allowed for returns. It is a good paperweight.
