You will need more to make this work

These devices are for those desktop user who don't have a dvd drive or the hot new Netbooks which by design don't include a DVD (or CD) drive. But my 2 different manufacture netbooks...Read complete review

These devices are for those desktop user who don't have a dvd drive or the hot new Netbooks which by design don't include a DVD (or CD) drive. But my 2 different manufacture netbooks (Toshiba & Eee)don't supply enough power to the external dvd drive to load as a usb device or to spin a cd. Therefore it's a paperweight. Unless you spend extra money (per instructions) to buy a power adapter from Memorex. Look at the box or other manufacuters to see if it comes w/ a power cord.

I bought this unit as an emergency. P&P for a failed internal. a new internal was $49.. this was [$]. Good unit for portable or emergency, or a replacement for a failed drive. I like this unit and have no problems with it.

Price is too high compared to other brands with equal or better performance. That said, this drive is extremely portable with a very small height factor and no external power cord. That is why it takes up two USB ports (1 for power and 1 for data). The included software does a good job burning disks. Not as user friendly and powerful as Roxio but definitely adequate for anything the typical user needs to do.

Q:
I have a DVD recorder that records on single or double numbers that are channels numbers. The new TV has 3 numbers example (12-4),my recorder will not get these numbers for channels to record. I want know if there is a DVD recorder that will get these 3 numbers to record any channels. I am looking at the memorex Slim External DVD
