I expect a mouse to work out of the box. This fails that expectation. The scroll-pad is so touchy that I was about to return the darned thing. Then I decided to try one more thing and downloaded the software from Microsoft. A few tweaks and it's now my favorite mouse.

Here's the kicker: Mice are pretty basic. I have NEVER before had to install the Logitech or Microsoft software just to get the basic use case working. Oh, and finding and installing the software (no disk or URL was provided in the packaging) is not something I would expect a non-techsavvy user to do. Admittedly, if you want to super-customize the button behaviors, etc... then I expect to have to download the software. But NOT to make basic up/down scrolling work.

The end result: I love the mouse, but my next mouse will not be a Microsoft one. I hate having to install extra stuff on my computer.

if you have small hands, they you will like this mouse, if you have larger hands, or long fingers, it isn't for you. The scroll is a flat surface and when using photoshop and even web browsing, I find it is very hard to keep my finger on the little flat strip surface for scrolling. I have to stop and look at the strip and replace my hand constantly. I am going back to the old fashioned one.

Comments about Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse:

I hate it. I bought two and will return the unopened item. If your wrist is prone to carpal tunnel syndrome, do not use this item! The design looks cool and is very easy to set up. I like that it flattens for storage in laptop bags for travel.

Comments about Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse:

The Arc is new, cool, sleek to look at and simple to use. I have had a Microsoft wireless mouse for years, and this one has much to commend. The cool factor makes it the envy of other folks in the office. The clean lines combined with the flattening to turn off (to save battery) make it easy to carry and space saving. The roller makes a little clicking sound of verisimilitude to help you realize the cursor movement up or down. A flick of the finger up or down initiates an inertial system to cover more ground without an additional finger movement.

No, this is a touch-mouse and the click function is gesture-based so it doesn't make a click sound like a traditional mouse.

            A:

Nope, this mouse doesn't have left and right buttons. To click, you simply tap area where the buttons would be on a normal mouse.
