This is a very attractive mouse, gorgeous color, sleek appearance. Comfortable in the hand, nice size, smooth finish. Pleasant to touch. Easy click. But there is one major flaw. The surface of the touch strip, which takes the place of a scroll wheel, feels exactly the same as the surface of the rest of the mouse. There is no tactile feedback of whether your finger is on the left click, right click or touch strip. When trying to scroll I often find there is no scrolling only because my finger has moved from the touch strip to the left click. I have to look at the mouse in order to see where to place my finger when I want to scroll.

First the haptic feedback is really neat. I can see where it would work well for scrolling through long documents. If you flick it down quickly it scrolls like you're using a wheel on ball bearings. While it's pretty easy to get use to flicking it down you have to get used to flicking it up because your finger needs to leave the pad for it to scroll fast and my finger wants to remain on the pad. Also watch those heavy fingers they tend to push the pad down and activate the button that is assigned to the push.
Next the range on the transceiver is very limited. My PC is under my desk and about 3 feet away from the mouse. I was getting jerky mouse movements and when I moved the transceiver to the desktop using an extension cable I had from another USB product it solved my problem. I took 1 star away for not having good range and another for not including an extension cable to move the transceiver in range. All in all once you get used to the touch pad on top, the mouse works very well.
Comments about Microsoft Explorer Touch Mouse (Limited Edition Red):
Nice and sleek looking, but could be better. Randomly "acts up" when you move around the screen by becoming choppy and tending to jump and frustrate you when you try to fix your position on an object. The only way to correct that appears to change the location of the mouse by lifting it and relocating it on another surface: strange! I will use it when I travel with my laptop but reinstalled old mouse for desktop.
Comments about Microsoft Explorer Touch Mouse (Limited Edition Red):
This mouse had the cursor moving all over the screen on it's own. Then when I went to use it, I couldn't get it to communicate with the computer ... how frustrating.

This mouse should work fine on Windows XP. There's no installation disk, the computer will install everything you need from the internet as soon as you plug the mouse's wireless receiver in.

Q:
is this wireless mouse difficult for an elderly person to operate?
If you are able to use a standard type mouse you can use this mouse as well.

A:
The scroll on this unit may be too difficult for an elderly person to use if they are used to a different one already. The following mouse may be easier for an elderly person: http://www.staples.com/Microsoft-Touch-Mouse/product_326885
