After some comparison shopping against other models and brands, found the features of the Microsoft Lifecam 3000 to meet all of my needs--and at an excellent price. Find the quality of the video and the light sensitivity to be remarkable for such a small and affordable camera. Based on my limited use thus far, the sound quality is good too. The only annoyance is that because it is a Microsoft Camera, it's designed to default to use with Windows Messenger--and so there are periodic prompts to synch. While annoying, it's not a problem--and other brands may also prompt to use their proprietary video chat services. I bought it primarily for Skype (it's a "certified" Skype camera), and to interface with university-based academic communications software. It works very well for my needs. (And the visual effects menu it provides makes it easy to have a little fun.)

It was a toss up between this and the Belkin version. While they're all pretty even, the reason I went with this one was purely aesthetic. The reason I wish I went with the Belkin is because of Microsoft's stupid integration policies with their other features. I don't use MSN's chat features. I bought this unit solely for Skype and Google+. I had to go in and manually disable an automatic boot-up of Microsoft Instant Messaging.

The image is fine, seems to work okay in low light situations, so I have no problems with the actual unit, just the software package included and necessary.

worked really well on two of my computers, but the one machine did not load the drivers correctly and I had to reload them because the mic did not work. No problem the second time I loaded them.

I love Staples and rely on them for all my uses. I have been using staples for many many years and I don't plan to ever plzn to give up on them. They are so caring and helpful. When I go shopping for something that is my first stop to check and see if they have what I am looking for. They aslmost always have what I am looking for and the prices are good..I always get my computers and my computer products there because if I have a problem they go out of their way to help me. I go to my local Staples a few days a week to check out stuff.

                      • A:

It works with Windows 7, Vista or XP with at least a dual Intel PC running at least 1.6 GHz. The head on this camera tilts left and right, but not up and down. It has digital zoom, but no optical zoom. The frame rate is 30 frames per second and supports recording 16:9 widescreen video in 720 pixel. It is a 4 megapixel camera. It appears to have just a usb cable with a built in uni-directional noise-canceling microphone with no separate sound cord.
