IF you are doing Skype, DO NOT put in the software that comes with it. I read all of the documentation and installed software, then I find out that can't do Skype with it. I've been on the phone with Microsoft at least 6 times and they have not figured out how to get everything off of my computer. Frustrating. I have been 'elevated' so now it may be resolved. So, if you want to do pictures and such, it is great - but if you want to do Skype, just plug it in and forget the software. Frustrating.

I ordered this webcam when it was on sale a substantial amount off the regular price but I intended to order it even if it hadn't been on sale. I was looking for a web cam and wanted a good one rather than a cheap piece of junk that would send unrecognizable videos.

I completely ignored the reviews in which some people said that if you installed the software that it couldn't be used on Skype, because there were several more that talked about how well it worked on Skype and I passed off the negative reviews as hogwash becaue it doesn't matter how good a product is there will be a few that will badmouth it, either out of ignorance or just plain hatefulnes. When the number of positive reviews far outnumber the negative reviews I believe the positive.

I have installed all the software and have used this webcam for video chat sessions on Skype, QQ, Yahoo Messenger, and CLM and it sent crystal clear video in all applications except CLM. But, on the CLM chat the other cams were unclear also so I am sure that is due to that particular site. In all the applications my cam was sending more clear video than the people with whom I was chatting and I feel sure that is because the other webcams being used were cheaper cams with lower quality.

I bought this to primarily record myself playing music and critique myself and stuff like that. The quality it gives is just awesome. The camera itself is just amazing. But the only downside is that the software it comes with doesn't record in 1080p so you have to go through another software to use it to it's full capacity.

Certainly not what it was intended for but this is my latest, outdoor weather/webcam as seen at http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/WitsEndPl/1/show.html or station KWAGOLDB6. We used a LifeCam 6000 outside for over a year now with good results but this Studio model is much clearer and they have improved the setting options in my opinion.

I have been back and forth trying to decide which web cam to buy. I have looked at the life cam cinema and life cam studio and is it worth the extra money for 720p vs 1080p? Help ! thanks

  The question of the extra cost is how lifelike to your need your image to be. 720p is a standard tv quality picture. 1080p HD, what you actually see with your eye. For the typically use the 720p is adequate.

  I apologize but I am not sure what you mean by the "tripos" connection. The base of this webcam will be able to sit on top of a typical monitor. This will work with Windows Vista.

  Since its USB based, you could hook it to your desktop or laptop with an extension USB cord and use software to live feed/capture it.
