This operating system (OS) is a definite improvement over Windows Vista. Although similar in appearance to Vista, there are quite a few refinements and alterations that make using this OS much easier and perform a lot better. However, despite these improvements I would only recommend this OS if you're forced to stay in a Windows environment.

In truth, I'm a loyal Mac user. Though most of what I do can be done on Mac OS X, there are some engineering applications that are only available on the Windows platform. For these programs I created a virtual machine (through Parallels Desktop 6) that runs Windows alongside Mac OS X whenever I have to use these programs.

Compared to Mac OS X, Windows 7 uses more hard drive space and processing resources, and costs almost twice as much as the latest version of Mac OS X (Snow Leopard). However, compared to Vista, Windows 7 uses less computing resources and hard drive space while still maintaining compatibility with older Windows programs.

For a Windows operating system, this is as good as it gets without forking over more money for the Professional or Ultimate version. Because of Windows 7's improvement over Vista, I believe it deserves 4 stars. In fact, the only thing keeping me from giving this product 5 stars is how overpriced it is, and how much I believe this OS is copied from Apple.

You should find out if your computer is upgradable to Windows 7. My 5 year old Dell caught an incurable virus so I installed a new hard drive and Windows 7 full version only to find out that my NIC and Sound cards no longer functioned. I had to purchase a new sound card and network card that were Windows 7 compatible. I Also had to upgrade my memory. You need at least 1 gig of RAM.

It was 2 x the cost of an upgrade, but necessary for a complete format and clearout of XP's issues and possible virus and spyware system infections. It gave a clean start to a PC that had been running XP for a few years and had fragments of programs throughout the drive and started running very slow.
A major difference in speed and features made it feel like a new PC. Some older programs would not work on W7

What is the difference between Windows 7 Home full version and Windows 7 Professional full version. I plan to install on my new Mac Pro using Bootcamp. Thank you.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional has some features that are not available in Windows 7 Home Premium. Specifically, Windows 7 Professional has these following additions over Windows 7 Home Premium: a Windows XP Mode, Domain Join, and allowing the user to back up to a home or business network.

            • A:

If your Windows 7 expired it must have been a free trial version, you would have to upgrade to the full version. If given the option, you may be able to upgrade from your computer. From the start menu choose Windows update to see what your options are.

If the full version can only be used for 1 pc, what is the difference between this version and the OEM version? The OEM is only able to be applied to 1 pc and the Full version can only be applied to 1 pc, then why would you pay the extra $100.00 for the full version rather than the $99.00 version of the OEM?

If it's like past Windows versions: OEM = original equipment manufacturer. You must be one to buy that version. If you cheat, and your machine dies, #1 no support from MS, #2, you can't reinstall it on a new replacement machine. I think you can use it as a restore disc for that PC as long as you haven't made extensive hardware changes. Full version = MS support, and the legal right to have it installed on any one machine at a time. PC dies, build new one, reinstall, re-register for free. As often as you desire, just so it's one at a time only.

Hi. I have Windows 7 for my Toshiba laptop. I have 2 wireless routers and 1 broke. Now when I go on to my laptop every time it tries to connect to the broken router and I have to manually change it to the other router each time. Is there a way to set a default internet connection or change something so I don't have to reset the internet every time I turn on the laptop? Thanks.

Unfortunately this question does not have a simple answer. Yes, this operating system can run on a MAC computer but you will have to run it with both OS X and Windows 7 (Dualboot). Once installed the operating system will work well but the installation and booting can be tricky. If you are not experienced with computers I would not suggest trying this.

              A:

This software should work on the laptop that currently has Vista installed, (check system requirements prior to install). For the netbook, you will need to purchase the product key and an internet link, since netbooks do not have a disk drive. As for the older pc, you will need to check the specifications such as RAM and Video card to ensure that the new Windows 7 will work on the current system layout.
