Q: Will I have to re-install my Windows Office Suite if I upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7? Asked on 3/22/2013 by KDef from Massachusetts Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: The only migration path that retains software operability is from XP to Vista to Win7. Going from XP to Win 7 will not retain any previous software. If you do a clean install, everything is wiped. If you do an upgrade, the old OS and software/data gets put in a windows.old directory. Nothing can run from there. You are best off with a clean install and reinstalling your software programs. Your PC will run better. Answered on 3/23/2013 by Community Answer from None
Q: My desktop pc is XP Pro and all of the hardware is 6-8 years old. Due the age I will upgrade the MB, CPU and memory. The rest will be as needed. Will I be able to do a new install of XP Pro on the new hardware and then immediately install the Windows 7 HP upgrade on top of that? Biggest reason is the cost of the upgrade vs the full version of 7. I can apply the savings toward my other costs. Is it possible the new hardware won't even let me install XP Pro? Asked on 1/24/2013 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: The new hardware will definitely let you install XP Pro, and then you can upgrade to Windows 7 on top of that. Q: My laptop had vista 64bit version and crashed. Unfortunately I lost all the disks associated with this laptop. Which version of windows 7 should I get? Asked on 5/3/2012 by BigD from Newtown Pa Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: This is an upgrade version of Windows 7. Because this will be your new operating software, you may want the full version of Windows 7 Home Premium, please see item 820236. Answered on 5/7/2012 by Cindy R from Staples A: For general consumer use, the "Home Premium" edition of Windows 7 should be all you need. (The exception would be if your laptop needs to connect to a Windows Domain network, perhaps at your employer.) Note, though, that the Upgrade Version requires an existing installation of Windows XP or Vista. If you're attempting a clean install, you'll need the Full Version.
