Nothing wrong with this operating system, my wife and kids can even figure it out.For the reviews here that comment that they are disappointed, because the XP mode does not work, it works just fine for, its a pretty nifty concept. I use it to run my Quicken 2003, which will not run on 64 bit operating system.First, your computer processor needs to be virtualization capable, as stated in the 'Product Details' tab "Windows XP Mode requires an additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with Intel VT or AMD-V turned on"If you have this capability, you then need to download the VT engine and the XP Mode software from [@]. There is even a tool there to download and run first, to determine if your processor is capable of XP mode.

Neither the label on the box nor the directions for installation make clear it is NOT possible to use Windows 7 Professional to upgrade from Home Vista Premium. I found that out from Walter Mossberg at the Wall Street Journal. I had to exchange the Windows 7 Professional upgrade for Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. Mossberg's website provides a handy table showing which versions of Windows 7 MUST be used to upgrade from specific versions of Vista. The personnel at my Staples store were glad to receive the table from me. You'd of thought Microsoft would have thought of this themselves. ARGH!

Comments about Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade Version):

Install was pretty easy, following directions. Upgrading from XP home edition, necessary to back up all files and reinstall software. Enhanced user experience over windows XP. Took the time to research whether to install 32 bit vs 64 bit option, decided upon 32 bit based upon age of system (5 yrs) and maximum ram capability of 4 gig, even though my processor could handle 64 bit software. Right now am running 1 gig ram and it works O.K., will upgrade ram to 4 gig to improve performance. Gave it 4 stars only because of high cost, otherwise 5.

Instruction should say that you can't install it in a Vista operating PC without backing up your hard disk, all the files and programs. It's a mess to re-install all your software.

                • Q:

I am presently using Windows XP Professional on booth camp (using IMAC computer).
Can I install this upgrade on this program? I bought it yesterday a Staples and the box is still intact. On left corner of the package it says "UPGRADE designed for Windows Vista. I don't have Windows Vista, I have Windows XP Professional and presently I am using Office Student & Teacher Edition 2003 (family pack licensed for 3 PCs).
Is this the correct upgrade for me?
I also have a lap top (MAC) with the same program. Will this upgrade to Windows 7 Professional also work on my laptop computer or do I have to buy another upgrade to upgrade my lap top that I only use once in a while for travel? The lap top had Windows XP professional installed in it when I bought it. Your help is appreciated. This is my Saturday project! Thank you.

Yes, you can use the "upgrade" version of Windows 7 if you are using Windows Vista or Windows XP. If you are not using either, you will have to purchase the Full version of Windows 7.

Most PC's will only allow the original boot CD’s to be installed in the reformation of the hard drive, then after the system is reinstalled you can then easily upgrade to a newer software version available online.

I have an Apple Macbook Pro computer with OS X 10.6 and I want to run Windows 7 with virtualization using Parallels for Mac. Can I use any version of Windows 7? The only Windows application software I may install and use is MS Project and the MS IE browser.

I have Windows XP on another older PC computer (not a Mac). Must I buy the full version of WIN7 for the Mac or can I buy & install the Win7 upgrade version for the Mac?

To download Windows 7 onto your Mac computer you would need to purchase the full version of the software item: 820237. Along with the full version of the software you would need to install it using Boot Camp software.
