I needed a keyboard which could provide ergonomic support for my hands. This keyboard is comfortable, the position of the keys is good (once you get used to the change), and the keys require just the right amount of pressure. I just wish it were a bit shorter so I could use my mouse in my keyboard tray beside my keyboard. However, almost every other full sized keyboard is wider than this one, so it is really the fault of the person who designed the width of the keyboard tray on my desk (18 3/4 inches).

I liked the keyboard and the mouse ... until I hooked them up. The range is limited. From 4' away, the cursor control was jumpy. I had to use a USB extension cable to bring the receiver dongle to within 2' for it to be usable. The keyboard was warped so that it rocked when you typed unless you put a spacer under one corner. Microsoft must be doing something funny with the key/mouse software to cater to Windows 7. Although they functioned in IE and other Microsoft apps, in many of my programs, the function keys didn't do anything, and the scroll wheel didn't zoom/scroll, etc. I went into the control panel but couldn't find any way to get it to work normally. By comparison, a cheaper package from Logitech worked perfectly right out of the box -- F keys worked, scroll wheel worked, etc. And, even with their dongle plugged into the back of the PC on the floor behind my desk, I can mouse all the way from the bathroom 25' away ... if the need arises :<) .

This is a good compromise between a flat and full ergonomic split keyboard. One that would suit both users without being too difficult to adjust to. I do wish it had a little more tilt lift to it than it has with the two footings it came with.

Comments about Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000:

I was tired of all the cords on my desk and decided to try the wireless keyboard and mouse.
the Dell brand seemed pretty pricey so I tried the Microsoft brand and it is awesome. I like the ergonomic layout of the keys. it took a little time to get used to the keyboard and mouse but I have had them for a week and really feel at home using them now. the keyboard that came with my new dell computer was pretty small and uncomfortable to use so I am glad that I tried this setup. I will definitely purchase another like this is it ever wears out. :)

                1 answer

                • A:

You don't need to hold down the (Fn) key but you do need to make sure you push the "F" Lock key that's located next to the function keys and that the proper keyboard driver have been loaded. Not an issue with Windows 7, but is with XP.
