I bought this because my space key was sticking on my old one. It was the type that has a 'wrist rest' on it and was quite large. It barely fit into the keyboard drawer. Although I liked the small curve in the keyboard it was not worth putting up with all of the other issues that came attached. This new keyboard is small and compact somewhat yet large enough to be considered 'standard' it fits well in the keyboard drawer and I have not had any issues with it thusfar. I have had it for approx 2 weeks. I use it daily and work from home so I stay behind it for at least 10 to 12 hours a day everyday! I love my computers and when I am not working I am ususlly playing on the internet or a simple game of spider solitare or hearts. That is about my limit when it comes to games. At one time I would play spades online but that is not what it means when it asks if this keyboard is great for gaming and I know that. I have an office and I get frequent visitors dropping off their financials and I tell most folks about it as I feel it was really a great bargin.

I use the Microsoft Wireless 3000 at the office, and I love it. I saw this at Staples on sale and thought I would give it a try. My eyes are not the strongest. I found the lettering on the keyboard to be smaller than most, and it is more gray than white. It can be difficult to read in medium to low light. So I am returning it and hoping that the Wireless 3000 goes on sale soon.
One other concern is that my Windows 8 computer did not really like this item. Instead of plug and play, I had to download the software from Microsoft, which can be tricky when you have already unplugged the old mouse and keyboard.
That said, it was a really good deal with a $10 off coupon. Also, it seemed to function pretty well overall. So if your eyes are pretty strong, or you don't even look at the keyboard, and you don't mind a few minutes of downloading the drivers, this is a pretty good wireless product. Just not for me, that's all.

Comments about Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800:

Function keys are not aligned with the typical 101 key wired keyboard. I use them extensively in Excel spreadsheets.
I really don't miss the wires.
All in all it's a good product and once I get used to it, it should be fine.

Comments about Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800:

My laptop mouse and keyboard quit working. Rather than trash my laptop, I bought the external keyboard and mouse, and productivity goes on. The computer recognized the new hardware quickly, and, other than having a few fewer keys than my laptop keyboard, it is a good substitute. And it is so comfortable being able to put the keyboard at a height that works for me.

I do not need the mouse, can I just use the keyboard and not the mouse? Will it affect the performance in any way? I already have my own ergonomic wireless mouse.
Asked on 1/25/2013 by ibchelley from vancouver, wa

          1 answer

          • A:

Both the keyboard and mouse have separate radio transceivers and each has its own on/off switch. They work separately or together so you are fine. If you only need the keyboard, just put the included mouse aside as a spare.

          1 answer

You cannot purchase a replacement transceiver, so your only option is to purchase replacement set.
