Pros:
-multiple buttons and 4-way scrolling are great.
-smooth and accurate tracking.
-works on a wide range of surfaces.

Cons:
-no on/off switch (see explanation below)
-large/bulky design
-inaccurate clicking (see below)
-inconvenient layout
-heavy

I found this mouse to be quite bulky and uncomfortable. It is really too large to slip into a laptop bag. It is a little awkward to use as it somehow just doesn't fit right in my hand. My hands aren't exactly large, but I never before had a problem with a computer mouse being too large for comfortable use. I also find that somehow, I am not exactly sure how, but I occasionally right-click when I left-click. I think it may be because of how the left and right buttons are all the same piece of plastic and my fingers just don't reach far enough down the front of the mouse. I can't MAKE it do it, but it happens at a rate of about once per 100 clicks.

What frustrates me most about this mouse is that there is no way to turn it off other than putting the receiver into the bottom of the mouse, so you have to unplug it every time you are finished using it. And it doesn't just snap into the bottom of the mouse, you have to actually pay attention to how you are putting it in, and double check that its in all the way, or the mouse won't turn off. It only goes in one way, and it isn't exactly obvious how it goes in. Not a big deal, but it is a real nuisance.

Bottom Line: I bought it when I bought my laptop, expecting to use it a lot. I had always used a desktop computer, and was never super comfortable with touchpads the few times I had used a laptop. However, this mouse now spending most of its time serving as a paper weight. I only use it rarely when I need the added functionality and accuracy of a mouse. Over all, a waste of money. I am sure there are better mice on the market.

          • Q:

I purchased a microsoft 5000 wireless mouse and keyboard bundle. The mouse just died but the keyboard still works. If I order this new one will I have to use a seperate USB port?
            Asked on 2/17/2012 by Anonymous

            1 answer

            • A:

Your old mouse was bound to their receiver, the same one used by the keyboard. The new mouse will be bound to a different receiver. You will need to use two USB ports, one for the mouse and one for the keyboard.
