The PC recognized it as a wireless mouse, but I had to go into Control Panel to select the exact model before I got really smooth tracking. The exact model is printed on the bottom.
I have a metal desk with the PC on the floor beside it. The cursor tends to stutter rather than move smoothly when all that metal is blocking it. I moved the PC to protrude a little in front of the desk, and that fixed the problem. (The USB wireless is in a port at the front top of my PC. That's what needs to be unblocked.)
There is an on/off button, to prolong battery life. I like this. I have a reminder taped to the door of my office to turn off the mouse, and sometimes I see it on the way out.

Save your money...

Compared with my Logitech mouse, this one makes a rather loud clicking sound and I would not recommend using this late at night! The tracking is accurate though, and it works on all the surface I've tried (though not well), but the battery goes out in a month instead of the several months it promises. So at best, it is for normal or light use.

This mouse is inferior to the Logitech M305, even though the Logitech is not much more expensive during a sale. The MS one is much slower, more uncomfortable and doesn't glide as well on the same surfaces.

I love this wireless mouse. I use it with my laptop because I hate those touchpads, I never could get used to them. The only tiny fault is maybe it is a tiny bit too narrow, I find myself accidently doing a right click a lot. But that is probably my fault, because a lot of the time I use it while reclining on the couch and using my leg for the mouse pad, LOL. Other than that, I love it, I had one before but the dog jumped on it and it doesn't work so well now. (It still works, but the right-click button doesn't work.)

  Yes. I have one for my home laptop and one for my work laptop. It was not necessary to have two (could have used the same one for each laptop), but it was more convenient for me to have two. There's a USB "transponder" (for lack of better word) that just pops into one of the USB ports on the laptop, pop the battery into the mouse, turn it on and you're ready to go!
