I chose this smaller notebook to create an activity for my students. I have typed letters on long cards, punching a hole in the top of each card. I then place fifteen to twenty cards that have consonants on them in the first ring, vowels in the middle ring, and more consonants in the last ring. Holding the notebook so that the rings are horizontal, my students can blend the sounds of the letters together to create real or nonsense words. We play it as a game by the students rolling a die. A number one or two, the student flips the card on the left;three or four, the card in the middle is flipped; and a five or six flips the card on the right. This is a wonderful activity to reinforce blending sounds together to pronounce a word. The beauty of smaller notebooks places the cards closer together to make it look more like a word.

Thought these would be thicker. It says "large" Also thought moleskin would be a different material - this just seems like plastic. They were very inexpensive and now I guess I know why.
