I picked these up after doing as much research as I could, and finding almost no reviews on the Trumpet's yet. After taking the gamble, I'll say I feel like I hit the jackpot. I've never had the privelage of hearing sound from a pair of IEM's that even come's close to this. It absolutely blows the competition out of the water.

I'm a baritone saxaphone musician, a former House DJ from New York, and a very eclectic music enthusiast. This pair of IEM's makes every thing I have sound better. I will never travel again without them.

Comparisons: Not as boomy in the bass as the Monster Turbine Pro GOLD, but a very balanced and articulate profile, I can honestly say that its clarity makes the listening of heavier bass lines much better (from Charles Mingus to the Black Eyed Peas).

I don't have a pair of the Miles Davis Tribute's to compare it to, but at the price and with the iPhone/iPod control and with the superior flat cable and unique design, I think that Monster managed to incorporate all of the pro's and none of the con's I saw in the Tributes. Plus, at the lower price tag, you just can't go wrong.

I won't even bother comparing this to the "Beats" line, there is no comparison, this is hands down better.

Bass - beautifully well rounded and profound sound
Mids - Excellent body without excessive pressure
Highs - Crystal Articulation without being to sharp

I did a 10 hour burn in, and the sound balanced out beautifully, I garantee you will not be disappointed if you make this purchase. Plus, with the new SuperTips fitting, you can't get a better IEM experience (excellent sound isolation).

My only complaint is that the cable is not quite long enough for me. But it does easily reach from my waist to my ears (and I'm 6'2"). Nice carrying case included (I think it's the same one as that came with the Tribute's).

Comments about Monster Miles Davis Trumpet High Performance In-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk:

I cross-shopped these against similarly rated in-ear, noise isolating earphones on CNET. I found that they fit perfectly with the smallest tips in my ears. Sonically, they are at least as good as I've heard from other in-ear headphones (I don't claim to be an audiophile). The value for me is very high, which was less than half of retail due to a special sale when I bought them. I also enjoy the weight of the earpiece itself, and the musically-themed control stalk is a fashionable, if not blingie, touch.

I question the longevity of the areas where the ribbon cable terminates, especially near the gold plated terminal and black rubber boot. Additionally, the 90 degree angle for the jack forced me to trim off some rubber surround from my rugged iPhone 4 case - no worries for me as the phone and case are being retired soon, but beware of this general fitment potential issue with ruggedized cases for smartphones and such.

All in all, I give it 5 out of 5 stars, which is rare for me. After years and patience, I just feel happy that I've found my permanent in-ear headphone solution and hope that they last for a long time.

Comments about Monster Miles Davis Trumpet High Performance In-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk:

I found the Miles Davis TRUMPET headphones to be unforgivably precise - and the best sounding headphones I own.
They have the same 'revealing' characteristics as the electrostatic speakers in my home stereo. For my tastes, the musical quality is superb. Before listening to them for the first time, I found the pair of SuperTips that provided a snug, comfortable fit.

Not everyone likes 'accurate' speakers & headphones. Many prefer a sound that's heavier on the bass side, has emphasis on the highs, or a combination of both. If your tastes lean this way, you might not like these initially. But spend a little time listening to some well recorded music, and you might just find yourself wanting more.

I felt these headphones had the following characteristics:

        - Tight bass. These headphones don't have heavy or emphasized bass. This minimizes bass coloration. Psychoacoustically, too much bass can mask (overpower) the mids and highs, reducing clarity and detail. The bass, however, is deep and impressive. On some of my favorite songs by Eric Clapton, Dire Straits and John Mayer, I thought to myself "Wow!".

        - Accurate mids - perfect on the best recordings, bright on recordings with too much 'phat' (where the quieter portions of the music are artificially made louder to keep the volume level consistent - reducing the natural dynamic range).

        - Clean highs - chimes and triangles 'sparkle', saxophones 'breathe', trumpets 'shine', guitars and violins have 'texture', and vocals have 'presence'. This is the area where these headphones really seem to differentiate themselves. While listening to some modern and classic Jazz and Classical music recordings, I got goose bumps - the instruments and quality of the music was that realistic. One such recording is "For Duke - Bill Berry and his Ellington All-Stars" (M&K label). Others include Miles Davis (of course!), Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans Trio, Stan Getz, Cal Tjader, Lionel Hampton, The Romeros, and James Taylor.

When I first opened the stylish box these came in, I said "Uh-oh". I was concerned that they were going to be nicely styled, but average sounding headphones. This is not the case. I thoroughly enjoy these headphones.

Comments about Monster Miles Davis Trumpet High Performance In-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk:

It's nice to give someone special to you. Stunning looking trumpet formula and nice sound. However, Bass is not really great but mid and high are excellent. Since Monster products always have enough and various ear tips, as soon as you find the right ear tips it blocks the out side noise really well.
There is no leaking compare to other headphones such as Turbine. Although It fits nicely on your ears, not recommend for work out.

Comments about Monster Miles Davis Trumpet High Performance In-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk:

After reading all the reviews -- here, [@], elsewhere -- I had to give my two cents. The headphones are not for everybody, especially if you seek richer bass. But for those of you who want a clean sound, with true highs and mids, these are amazing headphones. I hear cymbals and guitar strings vibrate. It's like Miles is in my head. Miles' trumpet seers the brain. That said, these are certainly awful for hip hop, bass-heavy rock, stuff like that. Just not enough depth. But I didn't buy them for that. Jazz, classical, singer/songwriter (acoustic Neil Young), vocals are excellent. One other thing to note, the fit can be tricky, but bear with it. Once you find the right fit you'll love these.
