Comments about Western Digital My Net AC1300 Router:

I had 4 problems with this router, 3 serious enough to make it useless for me. When I first connected it it updated the firmware, so I was not using old firmware. First, I was using it with a new Macbook Air with 802.11AC built in, so I should have been able to take advantage of this router's speed. Using Comcast, my download speed with a Linksys E1200 802.11N router was about 25 Mbps. With this router, it was about 5Mbps. So, a great speed slowdown. Second, it would not share my multi-function printer, a Canon MX330, in Autoconnect mode as the documentation said it shares printers. Third, an attached USB 2.0 Hard Drive showed up in the Router interface and was claimed to be shared, but never showed up on the network. Finally, I changed the admin password to a 20-character password, which the router happily accepted. But thereafter I could not login to the router. I called tech support, and they said the maximum password length is 16, so I had to restore factory settings and start over. I have no problem with a 16 character maximum, but programming 101 says they should have given me an error message when I entered one that was too long. I think this is indicative of the lack of quality in this router. Needless to say I returned it.
