I had a choice to move my internet that has telephony integrated in the modem or purchase a product that would allow me to move my PC and keep everything else right where it was. I really didn't want to relocate my modem just to move my PC so I began looking at other options. My modem and Nighthawk router were already in the perfect place in the house. My voices now were to find an internal and inferior wireless network card or this USB wireless stick. I had no experience with these but at $70 and plug and play it seemed like a no brainer. Not to mention the AC technology in this Network adaptor pulls in 5ghz very strong. The product comes with a optional corded base to plug the stick into so placement on top of a desk is possible and reception is better or simply plug into an open USB slot. You won't regret buying this one as I sure don't. It has the latest technology and is easily installed. Not much more to say except Outstanding!

I use a dual-boot desktop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. Windows setup went smooth. There is no way to get this device to work in Ubuntu, not with NDISWRAPPER, not with Wine, not through any method currently available - the drivers just won't work. Hence the 3 star review. Unless you want to roll your own kernel, you'll have to wait until someone develops a Linux driver - Don't even bother with Netgear, they don't provide support for any Linux platforms (shame, they are missing a growing group of pc users).

Transfer speed can be limited if you are using USB 2.0 (you'll never come close to the advertised speed). With USB 2.0, your limit is about 480Mbps signal and 280Mbps effective speed. Speed is much better with USB 3.0. I also ran into a speed wall with the limits on the wireless router (you won't get the "ac" speed without an "ac" router). Although I didn't have this problem, others with this adapter have run across transfer limits from their service provider.

Comments about NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band WiFi USB Adapter A6200:

Works great and connects almost at its fastest speed for the device . max speed is 900 mpbs connects for me at 866 mpbs. Never drops a connection for me. Cannot speak for range as it is used for a PC since my network card connected so slow wireless I bought this and my speed soared.

Comments about NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band WiFi USB Adapter A6200:

Bought this instead of a new network card for PC to connect to internet. My WiFi connection went from dell WiFi card speed of 23mbp to 866mpb with just using this adapter. Only downside is every so offen pc does not connect on boot up I have to pull adapterfromusb port and put back in and it connects right away.
