In the SMALL (7") Tablet market there are 4 quality products. But the Apple iPad Mini and the Nook HD, to me, are the category leaders. I chose the Nook because of the higher resolution display and the Micro SD card slot. The hardware is great, runs beautifully and the battery lasts a decent amount of time (with WiFi off). The main drawback is that the crippled version of Android is stifling when compared to iOS or even full Android(Kindle Fire, Google Nexus). That said, if you are using this primarily for content consumption and have your own videos,e-books etc then you're good to go. For a more robust experience then it's iPad. Also, there's no camera, the dock connector is proprietary instead of micro USB, speaker volume is low and consequently earbuds are a necessity but are not included.

I started out liking the Nook HD until really using it now I find it a below average device. A recent upgrade to the software now has my videos not showing up in the library under Movies & TV. This is yet another thing to not like about the device.
Where do I start: I can't download books from the library as this device does not work with Adobe Digital Editions; Sometimes it won't connect via USB but when it does there is no way to eject it safely; It has not powered up one time; Class 10 microSD cards will not work in it and all the larger memory cards (64GB) are all class 10; It won't work with micro SDXC cards despite the user guide stating the opposite; The user guide doesn't seem to be up to date for this new device; and finally and it is a big one, I was told by customer service that my device wasn't up to their usually standard and it should be returned for warranty until they heard I purchased it from Staples then they basically told me the warranty was void. I found out they wouldn't honor their 1 year warranty if purchased from any other retailer one week after it was eligible for return to Staples.
I spent a lot of money on accessories such as memory, B&N Nook case, B&N Nook screen covers, and B&N apps. I will keep it till it is no longer usable to get my money out of it but will never purchase from a company who can arbitrarily decide to void their warranty.

I enjoyed the easy set up. However the screen will randonly rotates while I am reading,creating minor annoyances while I rotate the nook around to try to get it to reset the screen to how I wanted it. Also when scrolling through the library, it goes fast and will click open a book even if I didn't touch it. I wish it would give a brief summary of books, especially when buying a series so you know which one to read first. I am not fond of reading books in a series out of order. I do wish that I had access to the android market place, especily since the driving operating system is andriod. I do not know why this would not be an option. There are many android apps that I would love to put and play on my nook. Overall, I use this mainly as an ereader, it has a few glitches with it, but overall I am pleased for the purposes I use it for. Also adding nook friends can only be done through online then accessed on nook. Thats should be simplified so you can request and add straight from a nook app.

this is a replacement for my original nook. I love reading books on it and the fact that I can turn it anyway that's comfortable for me is a plus. There a many things this will do that I haven't figured out yet. I've only had it a short time but know i will use it often.

I read about 3 books a week, so it's very nice to be able to download and read from any place I happen to be.

I do wish it had come with a more detailed instruction book, rather than having to go to the internet to find anything.

I have not been able to set up the email yet, it says it can't do it with my ISP, someday, when it's important I'll do that.
