The Nook Tablet seems to a very well-built device with a lot of great features. I would recommend, however, that you don't try and use your Nook with any desktop or laptop running Windows XP. The first time I tried to transfer my ebooks from my desktop to my new Nook, my computer did not recognize the device. (I also tried this on another computer with XP and it didn't recognize it either.) The second time I attempted to do this, my system failed/crashed. I went through a lot of trouble having to reinstall my operating system.

B&N will tell you that it's compatible (as will Staples), but I've seen the threads and many users have commented on different forums that their XP computer will not recognize their NOOK. If you decide to purchase a NOOK Tablet, please make sure that your computer is up to date with Windows 7 or at the very minimum Windows Vista.

I learned the hard way. Still my feelings about the Nook Tablet remain the same -- it's a very user-friendly, worthwhile device. I do wish, however, that they would increase their apps. When compared with the iPad or Kindle Fire, the apps are very scarce. Just my opinion here, but the XP part is very important.

Initial Problems: 1) I hit the wrong button to watch the tutorial video. Now way to return to video; forced into registration. 2) entered e-mail address and created password; then attempted to continue with new account; system did not recognize ID or password! 3)Displayed phone number which I called; Jason answered, and was very polite in trying to help me. He directed me to my desktop computer and the B&N website.I gave him my e-mail address and home address, also the last 4 digits of the credit card I used for the NOOK purchase. He said the address I gave him (8 years old) was not linked to my e-mail. Neither were either of my 2 credit cards. I told Jason I never had an account with B&N, so could not understand the problem. He persisted in following their guidelines. We set up a new B&N account using my wife e-mail address. 4) I went to the NOOK and entered the NEW account info. Now, the NOOK wanted my credit card information. I told Jason I don't want to divulge that information if I'm not buying anything. He responded by saying "that is the policy". I countered by saying I'll return the NOOK first. He said there should be no problem if it's within 14 days of the purchase. In my opinion, B&N only needs my credit card number if I'm purchasing something, not "just because". I could proceed no further into the NOOK's capabilities, without entering the CC info..

Great piece of technology. Bought it to read books but it does so much more. I have full internet capability on this device. Can bank on line with it and trade stocks with my online accounts. One nice surprise is that even though it is not a Kindle Fire I still have full access to my [@] Account and can stream movies via my [@] Membership for free. Lots of great applications available too. I'm very happy with this purchase and am glad I chose the Barnes and Noble Nook Tablet.

Has anyone purchased the extended warranty for the newest Nook? Has there been many problems with the past versions. Did the manufacturer (B&N) take care of them easily? Bottom line: Do you think it is worth spending the additional money for a warranty?

                      A:

To connect your Nook to the internet, you would need to have an existing wireless (WiFi) signal. WiFi signals are emitted by either a modem or a router. You may need to purchase a router so you are able to emit a wireless signal.

Other than your regular internet cost, it would not cost you anything additional.

When I bought my Nook tablet(s) I was told by the Staples Tech person that it would access the Android market store and "all the apps". This is not the case but now I am told this is "in the works". How much longer?

The Nook tablet is confined to the roughly 2,000 apps available through B&N's app store, there are no plans to open it to the Android Marketplace App Store.
