I was looking for a quality Wireless N router with gigabit connections and DD-wrt compatible. This fit the bill, so I grabbed one to try out. I've tried a Linksys (320N) and a D-link to much disappointment, but this Netgear performs flawlessly. I downloaded dd-wrt firmware for it and never tried the stock Netgear stuff ([@]). DD-wrt performs flawlessly on this! No drops, great signal strength. Took me maybe 20 minutes to set up, from opening box to getting everything online. I run 3 desktops wired, one desktop wireless, and 2 wireless laptops and they all connect without issue. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for Wireless N. I have not tried the USB functionality, as all my data is shared through my computer already.

I reviewed a number of wireless routers before choosing this one for my daughter and her husband. The reviews said it was very easy to set up. Not! It took me two visits over a period of a month to finally get the wireless up and running. I followed the directions to a T although the printed directions and the CD directions were somewhat in conflict. The setup caught me in a loop and could not find the router. I went to the web to check FAQ issues. Thought it was the Windows 7 or maybe the firmware that was the problem. Finally I called the technical help line and together we did get everything set up but it wasn't easy. It was considerably more complicated than it should have been. In the end I am wondering if the router I bought was a return and had not been reset so that I was fighting someone else's setup the whole way. The CD caught me in a loop and nothing could get me out until finally the tech said to reset the router. (By then we had been working 20 or 30 minutes.) Then the router could be found and the setup was completed in short order. As far as I can tell from a distance, the wifi is now working well and I hope that continues.

I've gone through several Cisco brand routers in the past 5 years. I bought this guy after my latest router died on me, and I can tell immediately that it is an incredible piece. Great buy.

Comments about Netgear WNR3500L RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router with USB:

The transfer speeds across my home network (both WAN and LAN) were no better than with my quite old Linksys WRK54G router. And the NAS drive attached via USB to the router (they call it ReadyShare) had even worse performance. Its operation was also EXTREMELY buggy -- so bad in fact that I would call the feature borderline unusable.

Yes. The I-Pad uses the same 802.11 wireless standard that nearly every router uses. So yes, the two are compatible.

I have a DSL internet connection with EarthLink.

Currently I have a modem that connects directly to my PC.

I wish to have a set up that continues to connect my PC with a wired connection, but also have the ability to use a wireless computer, such as an I-PAD or laptop.

Here is the catch—I want to be able to easily turn the wireless function on and off, preferably with a switch that does not require me to go onto my PC, yet still use MY wired PC while the wireless is turned off.

Does this product do that? What is the fastest netgear product that does that?

No, this product does not have a switch that will allow you to turn off the wireless connection. According to Netgear, you would need to purchase a WNDR model, such as item number 927664, or 886778. These models would have the features you are requesting. To place an order for these items, please contact us at 1-800-333-3330.
