I haven't bought any new home network epuipment in a while in anticipation of this router hitting the market. Lets first say Kudos to Staples to be the first to have it available and at a great price as always.(below what many suggested it was going to be). I bought this router to replace an older Netgear FR114 that was still humming along but I was in need of more features with the addition of more toys in the house that want internet access.(ie Two Mac Desktops, one PC,Wii,PS3,Ipad,Ipod,blueray player, etc)
Lets start by saying that it is nice to have one piece replace three on the desk(DSL Modem, wired router and wirelesss access point)not to mention less wires and less power bricks taking up space. It has the familiar Netgear setup screen so if you have used Netgear products in the past this will look very familiar. If you have your DSL user name and password handy you can have this up and running with default settings within minutes of plugging it in.Quick and easy! Wired throughput is excellent!(gigabit ports). Setting up the wireless was just like any other and has good throughput and good range. Only downfall to the wireless that I found so far is if you go to hide the SSID and reboot, the wireless devices that were just using that SSID now say they cannot connect to this network.(Hence my comment hoping for a little tweaking the firmware via Netgear Updates. I had also read reports of these units on the market overseas first and they reported that this unit ran very hot however I found this not to be the case. The first week I had this I tried to make as much network traffic across this as I could(ie;simultaneous downloads, netflix streaming, the kids streaming you tube on the IPad) and I don't think this unit runs any hotter than my previous router. And incidentally with all of that traffic at the same time Netflix never missed a beat and D/L's came thru quickly.
All in all this lives up to the hype around its introduction and is a long awaited addition to the internet integrated home.

I bought my DGND3700 the day it came out since I had been a very happy owner of a WNDR3700 and thought it would work just as well. The router functions of your product worked pretty well and I don't have any complaints there because whatever bugs are there are small enough that I can wait for a firmware update. My problem is with the DSL modem aspect of it, and how Netgear's technical team deals with issues.

The modem:
1. Can't stay connected during thunderstorms, so I have to switch to my ATT 2Wire which NEVER drops in such circumstances.
2. Doesn't automatically reconnect if the connection drops which seems to be widespread from the comments here. Again, this is something my cheap 2Wire modem handles like a champ the few times the connection actually drops (very very rare).

I started using Netgear's support and the first thing they suggest is updating the firmware which makes no sense since the only firmware available is the stock one. Then they suggested I try another power cord (the one I had worked fine, the one from the WNDR3700 didn't change a thing), I needed a power surge protector (already was using one), and I myself tried getting a shielded phone cable to which didn't help. Netgear needs to fix these two issues in the firmware or hardware because it is clear from the comments around the internet that I'm not the only person going through this. It is very annoying to have to go and manually reboot my router each time the DSL connection drops. It took a month before Netgear's support finally decided to RMA my unit. I hope that whatever replacement I get works better than the initial unit. I'll comment on this review if the replacement unit solves my problems.

Comments about Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router:

Had problems connecting to the internet with this. Called NetGear support, reached a call center in Philippines, they walked me through the set up and I was up and running. A lot of the factory default settings had to be changed. Had to reset the modem a few days later. After resetting, all of the bad factory defaults were restored, could not access the internet. Called NetGear support, was transferred to a call center in India. After they played around for a few hours, they told me to get another brand because NetGear had known compatability issues with Windows 7 / 64. After many attempts (days) to reach someone [*], I was able to restore my connection. Hopefully NetGear will take notice of this posting, [*]. If they want to sell products in the U.S., then open call centers here so that we can at least understand what they are saying, and they can at least understanding english. If there is another brand of product on the market, I strongly suggest that you go with the other brand.

Comments about Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router:

I recently purchased this unit hoping to improve my internet speed by updating my modem and also getting wireless capability. Setup was easy except for the fact that I had to use the Westell modem provided by Verizon, because they told me that their system only operates with Westell. So if anyone's planing on purchasing this unit, they should call their provider to confirm they are able to use a different modem. Ended up just getting the Netgear WNDR3700 router. And so far so good.

This is the easiest modem I have ever set up. All automatic except for PPP login and password. The features are outstanding and I finally get more than 5Mbps on my DSL service. With Qwest modems, the best I could ever get was 3.5Mbps. From way out in the sticks, Thanks!

Comments about Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router:

I finally was able to purchase one of these through STAPLES online,[...]and was anxious to get it up and running. I must say my first out of the box impression was "very plastic", the finish is very cheap looking but that was not why I bought it so I went on with the set-up. The familiar Netgear set-up screens were fine, it has allot of features that will be useful in the future, it was up and running in no time at all. The 4 port gigabit LAN was first to get a workout and I must say intranet file transfers are smoking fast. Next was the ADSL setup, also easy to get running, I was online as it had no problems with my connection. Speed test maxed out at the rated limit from my ISP, and VPN check went off without a hitch. Ok, that was the good news, now the rest of the story;it will not stay connected for more than 6 hours, random drop-outs,and does not try to reconnect. The adsl settings are correct, good margin on the line but just random drops. The 5ghz channel is a real disappointment, about 27 foot usable range, thru two wood and drywall rooms is the max.I hope that all of this is just "new release" issues and will be fixed with a firmware update, which it kindly checks for occasionally, of course it has to be connected. All that aside, the real embarrassment is the design of the housing. The front panel icons are unreadable in any light, and the led's are set to "blind you" levels, very annoying. The case is a disaster, first very cheap looking and the worst stand I have ever seen. It will not stay perpendicular to any flat surface;over about two week times its listing to about 70 degrees. My wife was so unhappy that it has been banned from the room. Well for now I have set it aside and reinstalled the old DG834G that went almost one complete year without a drop-out. Come on Netgear get your act together, a premium product should look and work premium!
