My setup is one desktop pc, one netbook, an Xbox 360, a Wii, and an iPod Touch that all share my Comcast connection. I live in an apartment building, so I was getting a lot of wireless interference with my old WGR614v9. After a simple manual setup, all devices have blazing connections! Xbox is on it's own 5gHz network for streaming Netflix while everything else shares a 2.4gHz network. Even with the Mrs. playing WoW on the desktop, no hiccups in speed whatsoever. Streaming and online gaming would bring my old router to it's knees.

Well yesterday I just wasted 3 hours trying to set up my printer via the USB, turns out it is for and is only for memory storage devices, NOT PRINTERS! I guess that's partially my fault, but hey, it's this or one for printers (Belkin, which people had reviewed horribly on. The range is not that great, people say it can reach 2 stories, yes, but the connection will be slow. I can barely get max connection through 2 walls. [...] All in all, it's good for the price, but try finding something else if you plan on hooking up a printer that's not wireless capable. Now I gotta go find a Printer Server :/

I am using two of these routers to extend the range of my network- one as a base and one as an access point. Once the set-up was made it has been working great. Getting one to work is VERY easy. Getting them to talk to each other is complicated- call tech support and they'll walk you through it.

The other good news is that the two wireless routers combined cost less than the one Lynksis router that I tried at first and they have better features.

Comments about Netgear N600 RangeMax™ Dual Band Wireless-N Router:

I have a lap top and printer all in different locations and are networked wirelessly thru Netgears N600. I hope It is as easy to set up and works as well as it handles our laptop, and printer; to stream Netflix when we can finally afford to update our old tube type TV to an led screen with an internet connection port. Then I won't have to struggle getting up to play a movie, or hobble out to the mailbox to get it.
In all honesty I had to install it twice to get everything working. My fault I presume and blame on my lack of any formal traing for this computer age I find myself in. If you can read the rhyme "Jack & Jill" you can set up the N600.
I had a D-Link I bought 5 years prior that quit on me. Now I tell you the truth.Getting that thing set up really tested my patience. It came real close to becoming a target to hone my shooting skills for the upcoming deer sesson. That thing had me so wound up I had to put a nitro pill under my tongue to keep fromm having a stress related heart attack.
You will be happy with Netgears N600

Comments about Netgear N600 RangeMax™ Dual Band Wireless-N Router:

Purchased this to replace a vonage router and airport express that would lock up and drop connection, requiring constant reboots. Was hesitant to go with Netgear as I have always preferred Linksys, but was pleasantly surprised at how well this router performs. We have multiple desktop computers, xbox, DirecTV HD DVR receivers and vonage gateway connected to the wired connection, and three laptops running on the wireless, which is connected to Road Runner turbo boost and have not seemed to have any issues with lowered speed or connection drops. Wireless coverage is awesome, able to connect in places where we haven't been able to previously. Another great thing about this router is the ability to create two separate networks, one running wireless N on 5ghz and wireless G on 2.4ghz, which keeps congestion and loss in network speed to a minimum. Tried setting up an external hard drive connected via the USB port on the router, but was having a few issues with accessing it on the network. Haven't had much time to play around with it, but probably just need to change some settings to get it to work. Overall, I'd highly recommend this router to someone that is looking for speed and reliability.

It could be a number of things. Is it connecting to other devices other than the Iphone. It is possible that it could be your phone settings. It would be best to go over the trouble shooting page located inside the directions.

I have 3 desktops, 1 laptop, 1 ipad(occasional use), and 2 iPod Touch(extensive use) in a 4200 sq ft 2-story house. Will the n600 be able to handle all these? Thanks.

              • A:

The N600 will not have any problems handling the items you described. The question will be the environmental construction of the home, type of materials etc. If you have signal issues you might have to add a repeater at some location in the home.

will I see a change in speed and distance from my Netgear N300 wireless-N Router to this N600 Router and if so what are the numbers
              Asked on 1/11/2013 by Anonymous

              1 answer

              • A:

This is a little bit complicated. Both are rated up to 300 Mbps. If the devices being connected have Wireless-N adapters that are 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz there may be an increase in speed and/or range. Typically there is an increased range with 2.4 GHz devices over 5.0 GHz devices but there is also typically a speed increase with 5.0 GHz devices.

Due to FCC regulations consumer Wi-Fi devices are limited in the range they can transmit. Most wireless routers today use the maximum range allowed by the FCC. Some routers depending on frequency do a better job than others but you will not see a significant gain.

Not everyone's home is the same. There are different materials that frequency's penetrate differently. It would be impossible to give you an estimate of speed increase or range. If there is an increase. You can be relatively certain that there will not be a speed or range decrease.

Both of these routers are excellent products. The N600 has the advantage of utilizing the 5.0 GHz band if you have devices that have 5.0GHz network adapters. The N600 also has a built in USB port that you can connect an external drive to create a shared network storage.

You will need a cable modem provided by the broadband/cable provider. It sounds like you already have a modem because you are using your desktop. The manufacturer states this device is Windows 8 Compatible and should permit you to connect your laptops wirelessly.

The Netgear N600 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router does not include a modem. Unless a modem is built into a router, you need a modem. To get wireless signals, a wireless router is required.
