This seemed like the ideal solution to expand wireless coverage by replacing an old router. Wired PCs connected right away. Then I tried to connect our 3 iPhones and hit the BIG snag. No matter which channel you use (or auto) and whether you have on open network or encrypted, even change the network name, reset iPhone networks and reboot, an iPhone will not pick up the SSID of the router. A MacBook Air quickly picked up the 5 GHz network, and an HP laptop connected, but no luck with iPhones 3, 4 or 4S. Apparently NetGear knows of this problem and has no solution. So steer clear if you're an iPhone user, at least until NetGear comes out with a fix.

no a/c card conflict

Comments about NETGEAR N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router, WNDR4500:

I bought a netgear router to replace the one I dropped a wall hanging on and in doing so I bought a mid priced NetGear unit and after I installed it I found It was like being hooked up to dial-up it was horrible. So I took it back to Staples and a Tech there over heard my complaint and told me about the A/C cards that are installed in most new computers, ipads, iphones ect. He suggested I purchase this unit and it was about 10 bucks different in price and yippee it worked. My connection is on the other side of the house and at the time just the distance factor on the router was my concern. So Here's to Staples in-House Tech!! Thank you

Comments about NETGEAR N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router, WNDR4500:

This N900 netgear was bought mainly to increase range in my small 1000 sqft condo. The previous N300 unit I had worked fine but I had trouble connecting to the wireless printer at the other end of the condo about 30-40ft away (straight line - no concrete walls) About 45ft walking. So since the speed of the N300 seemed to be ok with my comcast cable - I figured the N900 dual-band would be faster and longer range - and just as easy to set up. It was fairly easy to set up...but the speed is only a small tad faster. It did fix my problem with the printer in that the signal is stronger and the printer can see it all the time. But when using the wifi on my cell phone (Galaxy S3) in the back rooms - it has the same dropping problems I had with the N300. My conclusion is that the signal isn't much stronger. So..for the difference in price ~$40 (N300) versus ~$130 (N900) the N900 isn't worth it. Go with the cheaper good N300 and save the money or check another manufacturer if you need longer range.

Comments about NETGEAR N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router, WNDR4500:

While it's not the best that money can buy, it's decent enough. It improved my home network speed. I can get what I need off the net within minutes now, as compared to the half hour plus I used to experience. The Genie app makes setup easy, and I prefer the Netgear product line especially after reading about the privacy issues of other competitor's products. I think the dual band feature adds to the speed, data accuracy, and security of my home network; the top of the line product is perhaps too new. I prefer a current but mature product that is proven, and stable.
