This is my second Neo TV unit, and this one is definitely an improvement over the basic model. The main reason I upgraded was for the larger remote with a fully querty keyboard (which is awesome!) but there were 2 other features on this model which also surprised me: there is a USB port, so you can plug in a USB stick and watch home movies or other content taken off a PC. Also, there is a smartphone app that lets you use your phone/tablet as a remote control (over wi-fi so does not need line-of-site to the box), this is a very nice feature.
Both units are great, I use them to watch Netflix, YouTube, etc. listen to music over Rhapsody. It even supports Netflix in Canada, which Roku did not.
Simple to set up & it just works. Would definitely recommend.

Non-Functional - Netgear Support Bad

I definately like the device, in theory, and will suggest similar type devices to friends/family... however, I can't suggest the exact device to anyone until I find out if the hardware issue I experienced (see below) is common... and anytime I talk about Netgear in the future, I will speak about my experience with their support team (see below).

Staples.com showed that the devices were in stock at my local store, they were not. I had to go to a more distant store.

Connected the NeoTV Max to my TV via HDMI and the TV recognized it was connected to a device and displayed the name NeoTV in the EDID, but no other signs of life. I tried multiple HDMI cables and still nothing. I checked the cables and TV with other HDMI output devices and the other devices/cables worked fine.

I eventually tried the RCA type cable that comes with the NeoTV Max and that worked.

Setting up WiFi connection isn't difficult, but using the remote comfortably takes a little getting used to and the fact that you have to hit the ALT key or CAPS key every time you want to use a number or capitol letter is a bit annoying, would be easier if there was a function lock or caps lock key. I think it would be easier to just use the app on your phone and the phone keyboard... but without WiFi connected you would have to connect via wire for that to work first.

Even though we were using the RCA connection, the entire family did immediately fall in love with the channel selection and general function.

NetGear Support:
I checked the Netgear support forum to see is the HDMI issue is common... no specific area for the NeoTV Max, but plenty of areas for other devices.

I tried to start a live chat session, but the site said everyone was busy and suggested I email support.

I tried to email support, but I had not registered the device yet. The site initiated product registration for me. Twice I entered all relevant information as requested and twice the registration failed.

I manually went to the product registration area and it worked first try.

I went back to try and email support and noticed that unexpectedly, a support person had tried to chat with me while I was registering.

Twice I entered the requested information to start a support ticket, and twice it failed.

I tried to start chat sessions again, and was told that everyone was busy and to email. But this time I just waited on that page even though it didn't even hint at the fact a chat session could start up at a later time... eventually, a rep started to chat with me.

As soon as I mentioned that the page didn't tell people to wait for a rep, they disconnected. They disconnected AFTER I had already posted a few sentences.

I started a chat session again, ignored that everyone was busy and waited with that page open... this time I was able to talk to a rep.

I explained the situation to the rep and they ended up telling me to take the device back to where I bought it from and to have the store try the next device before I left with it.

I called my local stores and I must have bought the only one, because they are out of stock.

      The first one was super glitchy. It would freeze up at least twice every 10 minutes. The second one would not turn on at all. I took it back and got an Apple TV MD199, it's $30 more but 100x better!

      Want to turn you good or very good HD TV into a smart HD TV this will do it for you. The selections are very good and you can do more with this device then with what some TV manufacturers provide in their "Smart" TV and you pay less.
      The device has both Wireless and Ethernet ports, the only down side is the remote, while it looks promising it falls short of being useable. Fortunately you connect a regular keyboard to the USB port and enter your selections that way.

      I purchased the NeoTV Max for the computer display function and it works very well. It does require reselecting the desired function setting each time it is powered up. It would be a nice feature if the previous setting was retained during power down and restart. The NeoTV Max is easy to use for most anyone. Connection and setup of the unit is straight forward for those with a little computert and network experience, however might be challenging for many users without any technical experience. Documentation could be a little better.

          It just requires a system with Intel WiDi to use that feature. You do not need a cable box as long as you have WiFi available for it to stream from.
