I installed this for a customer on an emergency basis and am very pleased. I like this switch because connections and link lights are all up front and makes it easier than a Linksys (workgroup) switch - which plugs in the back and lights in the front. In a wiring closet, there isn't much room and the easiest way to use this is to have the patch cables in front.

This product is fine when using PC's. Most PC's don't have gigabit NIC cards so it does the job. If your looking for fast throughput you would want to go to a different line of Netgear switch (prosafe line) . All Macintosh computers in the last 10 years have gigabit cards built in so you can transfer all your data 10/100/1000 speed. This one though is a decent bang for the buck. Quiet and should do justice for a small LAN, a bit pricey but adequate .

I have used this model a number of times (3x). Unfortunately, it does not last, but I bought it before (and recommended it) prior to the first failure. Twice, the failure was easy to determine--it blinked across all ports regularly. The other time, single ports failed intermittently making diagnostics a challenge. I have had other switches fail, as well, so I have no current "best bet". Who knows, maybe I had their only three defects? I will say that they did send a replacement (so far?) for the first failed unit.
