I have used several of these bad boys in small offices for expanding a single ethernet run for use with multiple devices. They wall mount easily, and are compact and reliable. At less than [$], I keep one in my truck with my spare Ethernet cables in case I need one at a client's office.

I have a wireless G cable Gateway with 4 ports for network connections. I have filled all 4. Can I use this netgear devise to add an additional 5 ports. This is just a home network without heavy use.

                A:

Yes, this switch can add 5 ports to your network but you will lose one of the 4 on your wireless gateway. So you will end up with 8 ports for devices to connect to.

I have a computer 100 ft.from my main high speed modem and I'm not able to get connected to the internet. Will this switch increse the signal power enough to get me connected or whate can I buy to be able to get connect to internet

                A:

                Hi, Ron -

Some people use switches to get extra distance, but I don't think distance is the problem in this case. Ethernet can easily go 300 feet or more even at 100 Mbps.
                - If you are trying to connect using USB, you are too far away.
                - Try bringing the PC right next to the high speed modem. If it works OK there, troubleshoot the 100 feet of cabling.
                - Some modems use a method called PPP (Point-to-Point-Protocol) that requires a password. Perhaps you need to configure your PC to give a PPP password?

In any case, your Internet Service Provider will gladly talk you through the steps at their help desk. Give them a call!

                Good Luck,
                / Jim

According to the user's manual you can attach a device with a cable up to 387 feet long. This should work for you.
