Inexpensive, but painful to setup

Sets up quick and easy as a basic firewall. Unless you are doing something non-standard for basic business (DMZ, VPN, hosting).

VPN setup is a pain and the client software is extra (PROSERVE VPN CLient). Client and server setups are not parallel and not straight-forward (However there is an excellent article on the Netgear support site that is somewhat helpful). Still trying to get this working.

However this is the lowest cost IPSEC VPN secure router I have found.

As always, netgear hardware is pretty bulletproof. Hardened metal case makes it fairly sturdy. Have never had a reliability issue with their equipment.

I have installed more than a dozen of these for customers. They are all reliable, as long as you avoid the wireless versions. It's great having the VPN features in this price range. Good for connecting SOHO's to the Internet and to the main office. Can create VPN's to most VPN/Firewalls available today without special software. PC to firewall VPN's do require the NETGEAR VPN software. According to NETGEAR, all ProSafe products have a lifetime warranty. Also consider the FVS338 or FVG538 if you need to support more users or to have better throughput over the VPN.

When attached to my fiber ISP, it would only pass traffic at half the bandwidth speed I was paying for. Replaced with a competors unit and achieved bandwidth speeds I was paying for.
