I bought this router because it was labeled as effective for large houses with lots of devices. I was having trouble trying to use my devices anywhere but within clear view of the router I had before. I live in an old, large, convoluted house with a large yard. With this router, I can use the web outside, upstairs, out in the attached apartment: play, watch videos, post videos, whatever. I don't have to worry about getting a dropped signal, or a slow connection. Works like a dream! I have Comcast internet, so extreme speed now that I have a fast, effective router. I love it. Just what I needed. We have a lot of devices sending and receiving signals, and everything works beautifully.

Tried this router after having connection problems with netgear wdr4300. Many hours spent trying to configure it to no avail so tried the R6100 which worked well except the wired Ethernet ports are only 100mb/s. The staples specification displayed is incorrect. The USB port worked well with a printer attached and the connection was reliable. The R6100 is a decent router if you don't need high performance to wired server or an ISP. Much more stable than the Netgear R6300 (connections issues plus printer connection was unreliable) and the R6250 ( Was better than the 6300 but no indicator light when the printer was plugged in but seamed to work but still connections issues) which I also tried. Spend a lot of time trying to configure both of those as well. Netgear really needs to get their act together and get the bugs out of their firmware and hardware. I was going to go back and get another R6100 and live with the 100mb ports but instead I purchased a RT-AC68R which blows all the above out of the water. I have at least 10 devices attached including cable modem, PC's, PS3, Xbox, tablets, phones, TV's, printers and hard drives all using one of the following 802.11G, 802.11N and 802.11AC, hard wired and USB. If you're not this intense get the 6100 if you are get the RT-AC68R

Mutliple devices, this is a must.

Comments about NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band WiFi Router R6100-100NAS:

Not all Wifi routers are created equally.

This router actually saved my bacon the other day when put into a office with 7 different PCs doing light internet surfing and mission critical LOB software. I had another wifi router in place that was a entry/mid level router and < 50$. It could not handle all of the connections at the same time.

This router took them all and made it run 10x faster.

That being said it has the pretty typically features you'll see out there with 2 separate antennas that can broadcast at the same time and a very reasonable range. Easy to setup. IF it does not have an active internet connection the setup will seem to take forever when you first turn it on. Just be patient and it will kick on.

That said, not buying anything less than this router again.

New lease on life

Comments about NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band WiFi Router R6100-100NAS:

This product replaced a not so old Linksys E1000 router that wasn't getting the job done. I am actually using this device as wireless access point vs a router. It look some time to figure out how to do that. On older routers you just need to turn off DHCP and plug into one of the 4 ports. On this model you have to plug into the Ethernet port and make some configuration changes to the setup. Once I overcame that hurdle the device worked great and increased my connection distance. This is a good unit.

Easy install and good performance

Comments about NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band WiFi Router R6100-100NAS:

I've been doing wireless networking for over a decade now and have used routers from multiple companies: Linksys, Netgear, Seimens, ASUS. Two years ago I paid about 180 for a Linksys router that worked great and then just died, which was odd because I have another Linksys sitting on the shelf (too slow now) that was super rugged and I've had for at least 7 years. Anyway, I pulled an old Netgear WGR614 off the shelf and it was still working great but I discovered I was getting only about 10 Mbps on my wireless connections and my internet speed is 50. So I did some searching around and finally settled on the AC1200. I don't have any AC devices and actually only a couple of N devices. But if I wanted to not have to get another router just to handle those as I get them. I plugged it in and it worked pretty much out of the box. One thing: When you get the internet connection running, be sure to update the firmware. There was a bug in the version shipped with the unit that didn't allow me to change the SSID. The firmware update fixed the issue (and in fact that issue is listed in the change log for the firmware). I am now getting my full internet speed on my wireless devices. My desktop is plugged into the LAN port and actually seems slightly faster as well; IE is loading faster at least. I also had problems recently with a couple of large file downloads that this router seemed to fix.

If you are not highly experienced, don't fret. The interface for configuration seems to be pretty easy to follow and there are wizards. I've used Netgear wizards in the past and they seem to work pretty well. This seems to be the lower price band of the new AC routers but it certainly seems to be enough for my home. I have a two store, home and the router is on the first floor on one end. Using my phone and a wireless lan application (WIFI Analyzer if you care), I measured the signal strength all through the house. Even on the far end, it is quite strong so I am very happy with the signal strength. In the rooms where devices will be most used, very strong. Obviously this depends on your home construction and layout but again, I was impressed with the coverage.

One reviewer did mention that the LAN ports are only 100 Mbps. This will only be an issue if your internet carrier speed is greater than that or if you need to connect to devices on your own network at a higher speed (I would guess more of a business or software developer issue than typical home use). It is definitely a valid point but not valid in my case.

Comments about NETGEAR AC1200 Dual Band WiFi Router R6100-100NAS:

This NETGEAR router takes up a minimum of space with its vertical profile while providing the high end performance for which the NETGEAR name is known. In my case the "reach" of the router is very important and again it has met the challenge.

I purchased this new router because my old one crashed. This one was super easy to set up and has worked 100% for both of our laptops, including streaming media.
