I have a home office network setup. Main router is an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and we have ~16 wireless devices connected. The WN2000RPT is very easy to setup. My main concern was whether this would work with an AEBS, and it does, seamless.

As per instructions it asks you to place your computer well out of range of your current wireless signal and the WN2000RPT midway between the router and computer.
Just a tip: It is not necessary to do this, you can configure the unit in the same room as your wireless router, provided you're comfortable deleting your current wireless setting from your computer and setting it up again once the WN2000 is configured. By deleting the home wireless setup on your computer, the computer will not connect to your home network while the WN 2000 is rebooting.

I don't run any security on my network, only MAC address filtering. So if you have MAC address filtering you'll have to include the MAC address of the WN2000 in the list on your router. MAC address is on the bottom or back of the unit. Since the WN2000RPT setups a new wireless signal, to enable the MAC address filtering on the WN2000RPT you'll have to locate, from your router, the IP address of the WN2000RPT, type in that IP address in Chrome or any browser, and then setup the mac address filtering. It may take time, but it is very straight forward. I just had to reset my WN2000RPT to factory settings once because I had made a mistake in my setup.

Once or twice the wireless light on the WN2000RPT has gone red, indicating a weak connection, I just turn it off and turn it back on.

bought this to extend my wireless network from my corner-bedroom office. used the wizard to set up the network. the trick is to allow some time between connecting the extender to my wireless router, and attempting to connect from my laptop/ipad to the extender. seems to take 5-10 minutes for the connection to become established. if you try to connect too soon it makes you restart the extender-to-router step again. once established, the connection works well and provides good coverage. the connection seems to break every few days or so, and it doesn't automatically correct itself so that you have to go through the setup process again. wouldn't recommend using the extender for any dedicated devices such as a set top box or gaming console for the foregoing reason. i haven't had any experience with other extenders so i can't say if this is a common deficiency

with the above qualifications, i marginally would recommend this device.

Comments about NETGEAR N300 WiFi Range Extender Desktop Version with 4-Ports WN2000RPT:

Netgear N300 wifi range extender did not work for me. I followed all the directions. Still could not get it to work. Also, discovered that the link to the netgear setup site was no longer active. I did a Google search for the site. Not really helpful. However, i did discover there were some blogs about using the netgear wifi extender with a U-Verse modem. However, I must admit that the information on the blog was way beyond my minimal tech understanding. I'm not sure if the problem was that the netgear wifi was not really compatible with the U-Verse modem, or something was going on with my MAC wifi. My solution: return the Netgear to Staples. Also, I contacted AT&T and upgraded my wifi signal strength. Perhaps Netgear needs to 1. make sure their assistance link is up and running, and 2. that their equipment is compatible with U-Verse modem and MAC (simple note/label on package).

Used extender for DVD player.

Comments about NETGEAR N300 WiFi Range Extender Desktop Version with 4-Ports WN2000RPT:

I rated this device a 4 because I could not set up a reliable wireless link between the DVD player and my router. In the end I plugged the DVD player directly into the extender, then linked it to the router and it works well.

Also, my other devices(tablet and phone) work well wireless to the extender, but not the DVD player.

Just a note the device is a subnet with an EXT extention to the network name. This means it shows up as another network on your wifi network lists.

Comments about NETGEAR N300 WiFi Range Extender Desktop Version with 4-Ports WN2000RPT:

Netgear's installation instructions were insufficient for me, since I did not understand what to put in the configuration inputs. The instructions claim that the setup can be repeated by going to a certain web page, but that page is nonexistent.
Fortunately, the technical support line worked for me, though it took half an hour for the support person to talk me through the correct setup procedure. The device ice now working very well.
