Was hesitant initially, but after hooking it up in the basement with a Netgear WNDR3700 router in the second floor, the WN3000RP works without resets. It has been a week plugging into a wall outlet in my basement, since then we have strong and stable wi-fi connection. Very happy with the purchase. [...]

The Netgear WN3000RP pretty much takes over and installs itself, which would be quite groovy, except that when it was done, my Windows XP laptop could ONLY connect to the Netgear extender; AND when connected it could not reach any websites. When I tried to use System Restore to at least get back to where I had been, for some reason System Restore could not do a Restore, no matter how far back in time I went. Bummer. Machine still works though, it's just more or less useless because it can't reach the Web. I'm sure it won't cost more than fifty or a hundred bucks to get it fixed when I get back to town, because right now I'm on a borrowed machine fifteen hundred miles from home on vacation.
Netgear's Helpdesk tried to be Helpful but after two hours on LiveChat the Netgear technician threw in the towel. Transcript on request; read'em and weep. It wasn't a terrible experience, really, just a total waste of time.
I'm sure Netgear's extender is going to work for most of the people out there, but if you somehow end up in my situation after purchasing one and trying to install it, you'll be very sorry --- miles from home base and your machine disabled.
Maybe Netgear will read this and want to do a postmortem autopsy on my Windows connectivity, just to see what the issue was with their install wizard. Meantime, I'll just try to get my money back from Staples when I get back to the States.

I recently purchased this product and cannot seem to get it to sync with my Belkin router. I have a Netgear MA111 on my downstairs computer and have a weak signal. I was in hopes this would solve my problem but when I push the WPS button it just blinks and never connects. The Belkin does not have a WPS button to push? Help? Thanks tt

                  1 answer

                  • A:

Since your Belkin doesn't support WPS you can't automatically connect the Netgear WN3000RP Universal WiFi Range Extender to your router. You will have to go to the Belkin control panel and manually add the Netgear extender to your network. If you need assistance call Belkin customer support.

The electric plugs in our house are reversed so that the grounding plug is on the top. Is this a 2 or 3 pronged plug, and can it work upside-down? Can the antennas be moved?

The Netgear WN3000RP Universal WiFi Range Extender uses a three-prong grounded plug. The unit can be rotated without problem and the antenna are fully adjustable.

It is designed to work as a reception extender to an existing wireless network. Your laptop or desktop computer will work if it meets the following specifications:
802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz wireless router or gateway
802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz wireless adapter or Ethernet adapter and cable for each computer
                    Microsoft® Windows 7, Vista®, XP®, 2000, Mac OS®, UNIX®, or Linux®
                    Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 5.0, Firefox® 2.0 or Safari® 1.4 or higher

It will NOT work on ANY laptop or computer, but only those that meet the above requirements. This is not a router, but a device designed to extend a router's range.
