I bought a small business LinkSys/Cisco router and this Netgear AP. The AP was hooked to the LinkSys which was hooked to DSL (all we can get). Both the ISP and the LinkSys dropped packets and the Netgear never went down, despite 90% of users using wireless. Had the ISP address the internet connection and I replaced the LinkSys. At this point things were completely stable. Only after the business grew to way too many users for this one AP did I start to get disconnects. Even these are short lived (30 second outage, 1x-2x / day). I'm on here getting a second Netgear AP to improve coverage and split load. Cisco/LinkSys seems to consistently let me down. NetGear seems to consistently be under-rated. (I am using a NetGear router in place of that LinkSys, fwiw)

I have set up network devices and installed computer systems/upgrades etc. So I didn't think this device would be too difficult to set up. To my shagrin, it came with completely inadequate instructions. After being unable to get it to work I called a support line. They walked me through the process that took about 25 minutes. After we were almost done he told me that since my Netgear router was more then 90 days old he couldn't give me the final instructions on how to interface the new Netgear access point to it. He suggested I call another number and pay $79 to them to get the last few steps. If my router was a brand other then Netgear then perhaps I could understand this shoddy treatment. However, I will never buy another Netgear product if I can avoid it. After I got off the phone my access point still didn't work, and my network was offline. It took me an hour to get it back to the way it was before the phone call.

Comments about Netgear Wireless-N 150 Access Point:

I needed to extend my home network wireless coverage so I used this access point behind my main wireless router and now my whole house has coverage. This unit runs Netflix through a lan connection and 2-3 wireless devices at the same time and it doesn't seem to have any problems handling the flow. Bought it online and had it the next day.

Comments about Netgear Wireless-N 150 Access Point:

This is the way wireless network hardware should work! It was literally open the box and plug in. No configuration required as an access point. Bear in mind that you already need to have a wireless network running to use it ... it is not a newtwork router. It works perfectly for what it is designed to do.

                A:

A router will handle all traffic on the network. It directs traffic internally and between the internal and external networks. An access point translates from wired to wireless and that's about it. Think of an access point as a wireless switch.
I think a wireless router is the way to go for your network. I recommend item number 857082, Cisco Valet M10 Wireless Router. Please call customer support at (800) 333-3330 if you need help with placing an order.
