Good upgrade from stock dsl modem/router

My 11g class dsl modem/router was having a tendency to drop connection, and I was looking for a 11n modem/router all in one solution.

The Netgear DGN2200 set up reasonably easy, once I resolved an issue not related to the router itself. It is a fairly compact unit, with good features, including a real on/off button (many do not have this!), and WPS protected set up.

I set up 2 notebooks, a netbook, a wireless printer, Network Storage (NAS), and a Roku box, all with no problems at all.

The ADSL2/2+ modem out performs my previous dsl gateway, being much more stable and showing no tendency to lose synch. The 11n wireless set up easily, and shows good overall range.

Bottom line, I can surf, download, save to networked storage, print, and stream video to my HD t.v. with no difficulty at all...can't ask much more than that!

Only mild concern: The DGN2200 does run on the warm side, and althouugh I would have preferred laying it flat on my desk, it runs cooler if attached to it's (included) stand...probably best to set up that way.

got this for my son in college. Thought he could set it up, after a week of working with ATT and Netgear tech support (both pointed at the other as the problem) he had ATT come and check the line and they said DSL was active but there would be a charge if they touch this netgear since it was not purchased through ATT. I sent my son back to the store to purchase a new Netgear 2200 (same one since ATT said modem was likely bad). It did not work either so netgear said ATT had an unstable DSL connection. I believed Netgear but before paying ATT to come back out I had my son purchase a Actiontec cheap modem to try. It worked well with very little configuration effort. So after talking with "Gearhead" Netgear's 24/7 tech support about 6 times for about 8 hours they have an admitted problem working with ATT DSL but no one could ever get a configuration that worked. I gave up yesterday and installed the Actiontec with a separate wireless router. VERY disappointed with NETGEAR. I will never buy again.

      I bought this router/modem about 2 months ago and use it in my 2-story home. We get a strong signal throughout the house. It was easy to set up, and I have had no problems with it. I have both PCs and Macs at home, both work with the internet and there were no issues with getting any of the computers connected. I have no complaints.

      I would only recommend this with some warning. It was good that I had the settings from my old modem because the default settings would not work with my Mac and Qwest. I have quite a bit of experience and it took a couple of tries to get it to work. The set-up wizard only works with Windows, so Mac users beware. If you are upgrading from another modem, be sure to record all of your old settings (screen shots of the important settings works well).

      That said, the N 300 Router w/ DSL Modem seems to be more stable than my old modem and, once you learn your way around, has a lot of configuration. I haven't tried the USB connection, but that is one thing that I want to work, so I can have network backup capability.

        Great modem router now that it is working. But, I think it was Verizon's fault, not Netgear. I have Verizon DSL and it took 3 calls to Verizon (to have Verizon clear the MAC address?) and 2 calls to Netgear to get it operating. Great tech support from Netgear. Good, fast, super reliable connection to my macs and my pc. Doesn't seem to slow down over time like my old Actiontec. Was easy to customize modem router name and password.
