I like this camera is a fine everyday point and shoot camera. It is easy to carry and ready for use very quickly. It has a very solid feel, and the photos are crisp and sharp, no hint of aberration around the edges of the photo, which is a problem that I had with other cameras in the past.

I am not happy with the fact that the cable is a NON-Standard USB cable, there is really no reason now days not to use a standard USB cable, which means one extra cable to carry, to keep track of, and to clutter up your desk. This is especially more important since you must have this cable to charge the battery. Which is the only thing that I use it for, I find it much quicker to pull the flash card and pop it into the computer than to try to find the cable. If the camera used standard batteries, I would not bother with the cable at all.

Though red is a fine color, Staples did not carry any of the other colors that Nikon offers. You also have to be careful with the camera when it is on and the lens is out. This camera was a quick replacement for another that slid off the edge of a coffee table and broke. Not that I had any such issue with this camera, It is just something to be aware of with this style of camera as you have to give up something to get a camera small enough to slip into your pocket.

I did not find the included software of much use, though if you had no other photo editing software and wanted to do a few simple things it would be fine.

The control buttons are a bit too small for me so I had a little trouble navigating the menus to set it up for my use, but other than that, the menus are logical and easy to navigate through. Some of the features are a bit gimmicky, though I am sure that there are people concerned about blink and smile detection, and it certainly makes for better photos overall. I found that it was more often wrong and distracting to be of any use. i.e., it thought that people with dark glasses were blinking, and it was detecting "smiles" in landscape photos.

One thing that I wish I got right away was a second battery, there is no quick fix once it dies, and you have to wait three hours for it to re-charge, and if you are out viewing the sites there is nothing you can do to get it to work.

Still for a camera that you can carry with you all the time, snap quick photos, and slip back into your pocket the S6300 is a good choice.

This is my third digital camera, so I was somewhat familiar with the basics. This camera is so easy to use. Took it on a one week cruise. Works good outside, pictures sharp and focused. Inside flash did a good job as well. I like the "auto focus" setting. The color is great because I see the camera and don't leave it sitting on a table or chair. I was shopping for a "point and shoot" and this is very close to that. Also like the size and weight. I can carry it in my shirt/jacket pocket and it isn't that noticeable.
