My most recent experience with Symantec/Norton and their tech support has been incredibly frustrating and completely unhappy. In short, if you ever think you might need tech support, don't buy this product.

I was forced to use the premium tech support for $99.99 because the regular support --after a hold time of one hour-- could not help me. Premium tech support double charged my credit card. Ten to 12 hours later, they could not fix the virus/trojan. I wasted hours and hours while they rebooted and while 4-5 different technicians repeated the same ineffective virus removal steps.

Ten days later, I still cannot get a refund of either my double bill or my money spent for wasting my time.

do not buy Norton products.

I paid for Norton antivirus program AND installation. Once home, computer kept telling me antivirus was not on. Ignorant as I am to computers..wasn't this what I paid for? Program is presently (I assume) installing itself, but computer (dial-up only available)is so slow as to be worthless now. More frustration than satisfaction.

Less reassuring than previous Norton

After the holiday's with kids coming home and playing on the computer, there were telltale signs of problems (the machine is non-responsive for a few minutes, previous antivirus software has been disabled). I have used Norton antivirus in the past and this one didn't meet previous levels. I want to boot the machine from the Norton disk, checking the file system before Windows has started running, so that malware has no chance to hide or copy itself. I want a regularly scheduled scan, with a clear report. This one provided very little information about when it was scanning or what it found. Just occasionally there would be pop-ups saying it had found something and dealt with it, but little more information than that.
The machine problems seem to have gone away, but who knows.
