I have four of these printers and just replaced two of them as the gears driving the tractor feed have begun to strip. The print heads are still going strong though. These are in fairly heavy daily use with multi form printer paper. They occasionally jam but this could be more of a paper issue than a printer issue.I went with the ML420 over the ML320 because for a little more money you got a better printhead.
I have found the following requested information for the Okidata ML420 Turbo Dot Matrix Printer: For the loudness or the operating physical specifications: Noise Level In Operating Mode (dBA) 56 Noise Level In Quiet Mode (dBA) 52 (Fast): Dot Matrix Print Speed Up to 570 cps Print resolution-B&W Up to 240 x 216 dpi High Speed Draft Up to 570 cps

Q:
Couple of things, is this top feed, bottom feed or both? I'm assuming it uses the computer paper with the holes on the sides, what size paper? Is it easy to set up, I don't use internet with the computer that uses this. I also will use it to print quarterly bills that are 3" X 5" is this what I need? Thanks, John
The paper feed is Rear Push and Friction Feed. It also has the following paper feed options; Bottom Push Tractor, Top Pull Tractor, Cut Sheet Feeder, Roll Paper Stand. This can use Single-part, Multi-part, Continuous forms,Cut sheet, Index stock, Envelopes, or Labels. The maximum paper width is 9.5". This is not a network ready printer.

Q:
The plastic "protector" on the printer cartridge comes off too easily, usually in the first 2 minutes of printing, and cannot be reused. The first cartridges had a "protector" secured with 2 pins...new printer cartridges only secured with one pin, and is very loose. This issue renders our printer inoperable. Any ideas?
The Okidata ML420 has an optional serial interface available. The machice comes equipped with a standard USB and parallel interface. Item #663664 Epson LX-300+II Dot Matrix Impact Printer has USB, parallel and serial interfaces.
