Ordinary scissors are painful for me to use. These are wonderful! Balanced and very lightweight yet powerful enough to cut through tough stuff easily and precisely. The boxcutter feature worked well for me, too. The half-price sale got my attention but the quality is worth the regular price.

I have used both the OXO combo scissors and the Wescott. I never cut myself using the Wescott, but I did forget occasionally to engage the safety. The blade was small enough I didn't cut myself if it ever engaged (which was twice in three years). I have had the OXO scissors for a month, and I have cut myself twice. The mechanism requires you hold a switch, then squeeze the scissors together to cross the blades. While squeezing the handles firmly together, you have to control this 8" thing and target whatever it is you are cutting. If the package is small and you have to hold it to apply pressure, watch out. I open a lot of small parcels, and this thing is hazardous. The cutting edge is longer than its competitor. The Wescott scissors may have a small blade, but it works fine to get packaging tape. And with it you are only trying to control two or three inches instead of 8. Both are spring safety blades that disengage when not squeezed, but the OXO needs the mechanism re-triggered if you release it. The Wescott will remain active until the safety is flipped. The OXO require two hands to engage, but the Wescott can be easily handled with one hand.
