I use this printer 3-4 days a week to print checks. The ink smears on initial use but if you are printing 6 or more checks at a time, the smearing goes away. I would recommend using Staples #508878 which is Okidata brand ribbon for the 490 microline printer. I am sending the extra ribbons I ordered back, and replacing them with the Okidata brand ribbon.

I wish we could justify getting rid of our printer so we didn't have to buy these! The only pro is that they are cheap. They have no cartridge life, so I'm always replacing them.

please inform the product manufacturer that ribbon is very very poor. I spent [$] for ribbon that does not work. sometimes i want to return it to staples but is so hassle. I wish I can use different type of ribbon but my printer is attach to my program computer for the business. Little frustrated

The best thing was that it fits the machine. It leaves ink spots and smudges. We have already used two of them and we are still using an old one on the other machine.

I use this type of ribbon for business reports. No graphs, etc., but it prints crisply & clearly. One ribbon lasts approximately one month of continuous use. It serves the purpose well.
