I use this to record live music and whether its just a guitar and vocals or recording a PA and amplifiers it does a decent job. Loud or soft it picks up the music. For the money I am very happy with the quality and love the ease of use transferring data to the pc.

This is a great Recorder! After extensive research & reading tons of reviews on Voice Recorders, this is the Best Model for the money.

So far it has worked out great. Seems to record extremely well... a LOT better than my old (expensive) micro-tape model.

With their short instruction manual, you can get to recording right away.
However to get the most out of this recorder, be prepared to read the instructions! You will need to reference to them in the beginning to really learn all it can do & the adjustments that can be made to get the best recordings possible. It may feel like a lot in the beginning, but it isn't bad at all. Once you get the hang of it, it is actually very easy to use & there's not all that much to it.

While I would have preferred a metal housing instead of plastic, only time will tell if that is a problem or not. (As an old timer, I remember the days of everything being made out of metal & being rather heavy, so with most things being plastic these days, it takes getting used to.) Actually, my old mini-tape type recorder was plastic & it held up fine. I am just worried, since this one is so small & am afraid I will squish it im my pocket! But if it does hold up, then I have no real complaints at all.

This is the 1st time I purchased on-line with Staples & it worked out GREAT. With the Staples sale / $ off coupons & offers (& by being a rewards member) I got this even cheaper than if I had bought one on ebay!

The only thing I would change on this recorder, is that I wish I could get the speaker volume to go higher. Although when using the earphones it is plenty loud & clear, and transfers files to my computer like a breeze. I suppose that a better/bigger speaker would need to be so large that the recorder size would get too big, and its size is something it has going for it. So I guess they made the best choice of the two. (Besides which, I am just being a bit picky about this, but felt I needed to find some points to find fault with.)

I would actually give this 4-1/2 stars if I could, as it isn't "perfect", but comes very close, especially for what it cost. [Truly the absolute best bang for the buck!] I would very HIGHLY recommend this to anyone. Between the research I did & the experience I have had with it thus far, indeed THIS is the one to buy!

Having owned and used dozens of recording devices over the years, I like this one best because of the many features it offers and the ease of transferring files to a computer. Having a decent quality speaker, as well as a USB connection made this the dream recorder for me. It is also small enough to slip into my shirt pocket or my murse (man purse) so that it is present when I need it. The fact that it is an Olympus product carries a lot of weight with me because I have had great success, over the years, with Olympus products!

This recorder replaces an old tape recorder. Learning how to use is more of a challenge than I anticipated.
