Organize Your Desk

Desk a mess?

A messy desk can be a source of anxiety and stress and can even limit your productivity.
With just a few simple tools you can get your desk in order and cut out some of the stress from your day.

Desktop letter trays:
A clear work surface starts with just four letter trays. Think of the paperwork on your desk. It can probably be broken up into four categories:

To do - For pending work
To route - For files to forward
To read - For non-priority files
To file - For work to be filed

Desktop file sorters:
Keep your files accessible, and "accessible" doesn't have to mean "in your way". It simply means keeping your files out of your way, but not out of reach.

Start by sorting the paper on your desk into categories, then file them using a desktop file sorter, letter trays, shelves or a combination of all three.

Wall files:
Wall pockets and wall files control clutter and keep files accessible, but off your desktop.

They allow you to neatly organize your files for quicker access. There are several styles available including vertical and horizontal with various amounts of shelves.

Drawer organizers:
Getting organized is not just about what's on your desk, it's also about what's in it. Start by getting rid of what you don't use and, if possible, install drawer organizers.

If you have to use a drawer or two to store miscellaneous, "must-keep" items - sort them, then place them in separate drawer organizers.
