10,000 hours? What did I do wrong??

We bought our Ott-Lite floor lamp online at Staples 30 Aug 08 and the bulb (I'm guessing it is the same bulb as the replacement bulb?) was dead o/a 25 Apr 09. ...Read complete review

We bought our Ott-Lite floor lamp online at Staples 30 Aug 08 and the bulb (I'm guessing it is the same bulb as the replacement bulb?) was dead o/a 25 Apr 09. We do use it about 12 hours a day, not just for reading, but also for partially illuminating the living/tv room. Taking that into consideration and the time it wasn't used (vacation time, etc.), the bulb lasted less than 3000 hours. Other than that, the lamp (and its light output) is terrific. Maybe the next bulb will give me the balance of the average life for a possible 17,000 hours of light ;) Or maybe Ott/Staples will have a "buy one - get one free" campaign for their verified product customers?

I like its light. It's bright and feels like natural light. But be aware that it lasts much shorter than it advertised. I've used three tubes. all of them lasted less than 1 year. I used them for about 2 hours on average per day. So you'd expect to use them for 1000 hours at most, instead of 10,000 hours that they claim.

Hello in the OTT Lite website there are two similar light bulbs just like this one Staples is selling. One is a Type A replacement bulb. The other is type E replacement bulb. The type A as they describe it, is for older model of lamps. I have one of this older model lamps that uses type A replacement bulb only. I would like to know which type is this bulb Staples sells as I don't see anything in the description either type A or E.
