Comments about PC Tools Internet Security (4-year Edition):

PC Tools V9 (which PC Tools immediately recommends you update too for no charge) as V8 (included in the box) is going away, has significant performance issues.

Version 8, the previous version was very fast and worked great. Version 9, after running a Full Scan for virus, etc. slows down the computer to almost unusable. Sometimes a reboot fixes the problem, other times not. Return the computer to verion 8 and everything is fast. The problem lies that version 8 is no longer going to be supported. I have contacted PC Tools technical support and been advanced to a higher level. However, after sending the information they requested 5 days ago via email, they still have not returned any contact with me. With a Win 7 and a Quad processor and 8 GB ram, I need fast performance, not performance that takes 1 minute to open IE 9. I have opted to change to a different virus protection software.

I summary, I can not recommend PC Tools Version 9.

Comments about PC Tools Internet Security (4-year Edition):

            1. I have to remove virus and malware infections as part of my IT job. While our corporate license is for Symantec's software, there are times when stubborn "infections" of malware and/or wirus' remain after all cleaning attempts by symantec.

            2. I have used PC Tools Spyware doctor to root out and remove such stubborn infections.

            3. One easy way is to create the PC TOOLS bootable recovery CD and then boot an infected PC from that recovery CD. PC Tools will have full access to the Windows OS and be able to remove infections that might normally be inaccessible if windows is up and running.

            4. Personally, I have PC tools 3-user license running on 3 different OS's and everything loads and runs fine.
The 3 OS's are : XP Home, Vista ultimate and Win 7.

            5. If there was one thing that could be improved, it is the speed of the software's scanning/cleaning.
If a scan is running on your PC, it can be hard to do other tasks.
That is why I schedule all PC scans to run at about 02:00, when everyone is sleeping.

            6. It could be easy to look at a software review that states that PC Tools "slows my PC" and then not buy the product because of this issue.
But if you schedule the scan during your off-hours, that would not be an issue.

Bottom line - any security software that scans and removes virus and/or malware is going to have to run until completion.

Sure you can pick a "quick scan" from a scanning program, but you have to understand that a "quick scan" and "full scan" do NOT perform the same "depth" or "thoroughness" of determining that your PC is clean.
The scanning time for a "complete" system scan does not vary that much between anti-virus vendors. (Unless a vendor wrote very poor software code that scans twice as long as it should) It will take every vendor
a certain "scan-time-per-file" in order to check and ascertain that each file is clean.
If your PC has 500,000 files, it will take time to scan the complete hard drive.

Personally I trust PC Tools to do a thorough job of protecting my PCs, even if the scan time is not the world's fastest.
I have also used other vendor's programs for home PC security. You could probably pick any of the "top 10" vendor's security programs and get good results.
A good measuring stick is how fast do vendor's respond to "NEW" virus threats and how fast do they find a way to remove those new infections.
