Had this phone for 2 weeks now. On the first day of using this phone I thought this was a [*]. Had all sorts of problems calls dropping battery was draining out in 30 min of use...etcAfter reading the reviews online from various sites I decided to try the solution stated in all those sites. Replace the batteries. Replaced the panasonic supplied batteries with Duracell (Nihm) from [...]($15) and it solved all the issues I was having. Now I have a solid panasonic set which meets all my expectations.When considering the cost for this phone add another $15 to replace the batteries.

I have this phone now about 1 week. It has more features than any other I've researched.
Like: clear sound, no background noise; up to 7 rings before answering machine picks up, unless one selects 'Toll Saver'; love the audio caller ID feature it announces the caller, as well as being able to block a call (before caller calls back the second time) when I don't want to have my phone ring with soliciting/advertising calls.

Don't know yet: how the battery will hold up;
how far the range is;

Cons: wished it had memory for more than 50 phone book entries.

This is the second set of these phones I used. The first set went back to Staples for the same reasons, I tried the new set and its just as bad. When the phone rings and you try to answer it goes blank and ssays it has no link to base even though I'm one room away. It's useless when I'm outside at times. If I could take it back I would.

At first, I was very pleased with this phone. It is really a great phone--when it works. As soon as the battery becomes the slightest bit discharged, it is subject to unreliability issues. Sometimes when you press talk to make/answer a call it will suddenly just go blank. Then when you press talk again, it says "No connection to base" and won't give you a dial tone or let you answer the call. If you're trying to answer the phone, of course you have to run for another handset before they hang up. Also, it often goes blank when setting an alarm and cycling through the voice options. The problems seems to alternate between the handsets, usually only affecting 1 or 2 of them at a time.

I actually purchased the same phone online from another seller at the first of the year and had this same problem. I ended up getting a replacement and also sending that back for the same problem. However, some of the reviewers said they subsequently purchased the phone from a retailer and didn't have these problems, so I thought I'd give it a try. My mom and I each bought the phone on sale at Staples and both phones had the exact same unreliability issues. FYI, I have since purchased the KX-TG6433 (a newer model from Panasonic) and so far it works great.

Trust me, this is the worst phone i ever had. The phone has a logo enerystar but, it got bad battery life. The phone battery life would not last more than 20 minutes..The worst thing is the phone display comes back just after few seconds of blank and shows the battery bars as FULL.
It frequently drops when you are in conf call. I did all magic like disconnecting power and removing battery, recharging for 12 hr etc.. all those stuff.. still it would not work. I am really missing the VTECH phone now.. The old one was 5.8 GHZ and battery died after 2 years of use. I thought to replace this phone with the old one as the battery for old phone was also expensive.

I am very disappointed on pananonic's cordless phones.. Its not first time i am having issue, i have a 5.8 Analog cordeless phone from panasonic, it had exactly same issue as this new DTECT phone.

Avoid this phone system and the Panasonic brand. Read reviews elsewhere, but this phone has quality problems including automatically shutting off mid conversation and not being able to connect to the base.
