Comments about Paper Mate Clickster Grip Mechanical Pencil .5mm, Smoke Barrel, Dozen:
As a college student, I need a pencil that can be used over and over again so I don't have to keep buying new ones. This one fits the bill for that because you can refill it dozens of times (I have been using one pencil for six months) without it breaking down. However, whenever I erase, it gets rid of most of the marks, but it smudges the page and sometimes tears my paper when I erase vigorously. Overall an average mechanical pencil.

I use these pencils primarily for working puzzles -- crosswords, logic, etc. -- and the lead HAS to be easily erased or it will become a smudged mess on the pages of a 'cheap' puzzle book, or newsprint (yes, i make lots of corrections! :-)
I love the feel of the barrel in my smaller-sized hand -- which is also the one 'con' I listed -- the pencils are not comfortable for my husband -- who has a typical hand-size for a man.
But, they are perfect for my elementary-school-age son who prefers this pencil over the cheap wooden ones he has to use at school. I often use this pencil to show examples or make make corrections on his homework sheets -- yet we can easily erase my doodles before he completes his work -- and the teacher cannot see ghost images of my 'help.'
As an artist, I use various types of pencils for drawing, coloring, shading, etching, etc., so I have the unique opportunity to handle many different kinds of writing implements. I have used myriad versions of mechanical pencils -- from very high-end expensive models -- to the low-end freebies you'll often find at banks, etc., but this is the only mechanical pencil I will use when given a choice.
These mechanical pencils are reasonably priced and unlike many other brands within the same price range -- these pencils actually work! :-)
Currently it is the only color the pencil is available in.

Q:
is this a good substitute for the Clear Point mechanical pencils? Item number 436719. You no longer carry that kind, according to the website, and I need something similar that will keep my office happy. Thanks in advance.
