My son likes to use mechanical pencils, but he presses down so hard that "normal" size lead breaks easily. These do not break when he writes and he is extremely happy the way they work. The only way we can get them though is online. But since we receive the orders the next day it really does not bother us. And ordering is so easy with the site remembering what I have previously ordered. We've been buying this product for years and my son is still very happy with them. I think they are reasonably priced also.

I do a lot of puzzles and sudoku games. Lead pencils are required; however this thicker lead eliminates all of the aggravation of breaking, and not erasable. A real problem solver.
Now, I wish that someone would design a good eraser for close quarters.
