Great pencil, in fact, I am ordering 2 more right now. It works well in my Nerd Pack, (pocket protector). The nerd pack eliminates the potential problem of the non-retractable steel point, piercing my shirt pocket. However, being a nerd, I fill my pack up. If I fill my pack up with more than 3 pens or pencils, the pencil is too snug, and the top pulls out, leaving the bottom portion of the pencil in the pack. That's annoying, but I still love the pencil. I showed it to everyone in the office, so they know if they borrow it permanently, they can't use it in the office. I gave this 5 stars, b/c the minor problems have work-arounds, and it is an excellent pencil.

The pocket clip and the stored lead comes apart too easily, especially with the soft, oversize, rubber grip which fails to allow the pencil to flow easily into a shirt pocket, especially one that is designed for a pen or pencil. If the clip comes off without noticing it immediately then it is probably gone forever.
Comments about Pentel Twist-Erase® III Automatic Pencils .9mm, Assorted Colors, 2 Pack:
In a mechanical pencil, I look for a good large eraser, a firm lead advancement, lead that doesn't break easily, good grip, and a retractable lead sleeve (so the lead doesn't break as easily and my shirt or skin doesn't easily get punctured. This pencil meets all but the last feature, and I have not found a pencil that meets all of them.
Jennie: .9 is darker. It's more like a #2 pencil. I prefer it myself because it does not break as easily.

My experience is that the size of the lead only reflects the width of the line and the hardness rating (1, 2, HB, etc) determines the darkness.

No the lead is not darker but does have a broader line.

Not necessarily...the softness of the lead is the factor that makes the lead darker. According to my brother a 2B, or B is softer than the average HB indicator, look below the size on packaging, for softness. The .9mm or .07mm is the diamater of the lead, the size is necessary for insertion into automatic pencils also will indicate durability. Hope this helps. My spelling is bad as fingers are faster than brain.

I don't know if it is darker, but since it is a somewhat broader line, it is easier to read. I think you will love the 9mm lead.

Hey Jennie I have this pencil and also a pentel quick dock which has a 0.7 lead in it. I would have to say that they both write very well. I press extremely hard when I write so for me the 0.9 lead is a lot stronger and doesn't break that easily. I hope that helps you in your decision.

Darkness depends on the lead hardness. For a broad lead choose .9 or higher.

I would use the .9 lead. It would give you what you are looking for.

Apart from the darkness issue, lead with a larger diameter offers flexibility in line width and pressure. You can make lines finer with large lead - but you can't make lines lager with small dia' lead. And the fmaller the lead, the more likely you get that irritating "break-off" when you push a tad too hard.

I think it mostly depends on how heavy you push while you are writing. However 0.9mm lead is thicker than .07 so it is naturally darker. That's not to say you can't write darker with .07 and lighter with .09 if you try, but in general since it is thicker it will be darker. Lead .05 is thinner, so it will be lightest, then .07 and .09 is darker....I believe you can buy leads that are over 1.0, but .09 is probably more common and easier to find.

I wouldn't say it is darker but the .9 mm is thicker so it might appear darker because of the thickness.
