I bought this phone system for my home-based office, where I need a 2-line phone, which combines a corded base and cordless handsets.
I find it easy to use the various features and I like the look and feel of the whole system.
As noted by a previous reviewer, it was hard to get the base standby batteries ( 5 AAA ) to make contact to remove the " Replace Battery " message from the screen. However, I was able to do so after prying the battery metal contact prongs with a paper clip.
The standard 2 year manufacturer's warranty ( printed on the RCA website ) is a recent revision to the 1 year warranty printed in the owner's manual.
I'm very pleased and I hope my satisfaction continues.

This is a very nice phone with great features. I wanted the long record time (60 minutes!). BUT, there's an issue with compatibility with the expansion phones. The phone I have is model number 25255RE2-A. The "-A" is important! As it turns out, only handsets with the model number ending in "-A" work cleanly. Handset 25055RE1-A works great, great sound quality, no static. BUT, 25055RE1 without the -A is awful! Lots of dropouts from the remote side, so bad that I could barely make them out. Attempting to get an extension that worked, I ended up trying THREE of these without the "-A" and all sound terrible! All my phones WITH the "-A" work fine. Note there are also differences in the D-Pad functions between these two model numbers. WITH the -A, when the phone is idle, if I push the D-Pad down (down volume), it immediately rings the phone and allows you to set the ringer volume. Without the -A, it goes to a menu choice to let you choose this function (which I prefer). They also have different functionality for font selection when entering names in the directory, etc. BUT, worse of all, WITHOUT the -A, the directory functions don't work at all with the base unit! Trying to upload the directory, you get "unavailable". Trying to download the directory to the handset, you get the same thing. So an important piece of functionality is also missing.
I've tried 3 Staples locally to replace the handset and non have another -A, so it looks like I'm going to have to give up on this phone and get another model. Sadly, few have long record time, so I'll lose this feature. I went to RCA's website to see about getting assistance, and I found they don't even list this phone there, so its also already discontinued apparently. As such, I worry about getting handsets replaced or getting new ones, as I'd have to get the -A model. That brings up the last big issue, both versions have the EXACT SAME SKU so there's not much of a way to know before hand what you'd get. Sorry RCA, but that is a major blunder. And, it does explain why many report great sound quality, while other report terrible sound quality, it apparently depends on the revision of the base and handset you have...and to make them the same SKU, really bad.

Comments about RCA 25255RE2 DECT 6.0 2-Line Corded/Cordless Telephone with Digital Answering System:

I tried this phone for about 1 week. I called my existing answering machine from the corded handset, the cordless, etc. My voice volume was very low from the cordless handset and so low when using the cordless handset as a speakerphone that the answering machine would hang up. I compared it with a basic corded phone, and my old Uniden cordless. I also tried the extra handset I had purchased with the same results.

I rated it as a 3 because it does have good features and I could hear people well, but I can't recommend to anyone who doesn't have a naturally loud voice.

This phone is not compatible with any other brand of phone. I bought this phone for the conference room in my office. When it did not work properly, I called RCA and was told that it was not compatible with the other phones I was already using in my office. The only way this phone will work is if all phones connected to my office phone line are RCA. I will be returning this phone since there is no way I am going to replace all the other phones in my office.

Phone system is Great except for the battery compartment. It was poorly designed and very snug so some batteries don't work because they don't make contact with the terminals. Try Rayovac, that's what I was told by the tech when I called to indicate the "Replace Batteries" message was always lit.

We use this for a home office. I don't like the speakerphone sound on base unit but hand held speakerphone is very good. My wife hates Speakerphones anyway. The owners manual is a little complicated. I wish somebody would make a CD/video with instructions. It can't be that expensive to make and it would help sell THOUSANDS of these units.

It will display the number when you are on the phone with another call, or just miss a call and hang up, as long as you have this service through your telephone provider (it is usually bundled with caller ID). It is called call waiting ID.

In order to use the item 797358's Caller ID features, you must subscribe to either the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service or Call Waiting Caller ID Service. To know who is calling while you are on the phone, you must subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID Service. You also have the option to change the name that appears by adding the number to your phone directory.

LINE2 will be a business # (with connection to fax machine) that is accessed only from my home office and the LINE2 calls will come in ONLY on this 2-line instrument. Does this system have two SEPARATE mailboxes that allow for a completely separate outgoing message for each? If yes, does base and/or handset screen indicate WHICH line is receiving or has a message in mailbox?

The digital answering system is shared by both lines, with 60 minutes of recording time. If you need a seperate answering service, you will need to subscribe one of the lines to a voicemail service provided by your telephone service provider.
