Comments about Refurbished HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k022dx 15.6" Sleekbook, 750GB, 6GB Memory, AMD Elite Quad-Core, Win 8:

I had a new hp pavillion with similar specifications in for wireless repairs immediately after purchasing so I picked this one up as a back up. They didn't manage to actually fix the issue, but it was going back anyways after this arrived. Only 3 days to get here. Other than not having a 1080p screen, the Envy is much nicer all round, is just as fast with half the ram for normal use, and was half the price of the other one with the last coupon. No scratches, finger prints etc, looked like new. The version of W8 on it is very similar to 8.1 so I don't feel the need to buy an OS upgrade. The A10 seems to be twice as fast as my A6 machine. This was intended for my wife when the other came back, so I plan on getting another soon.

Battery life is decent. Yesterday it ran all evening on battery, about 4 hrs. It does not have an exterior battery so you can't change it out, but one of the usb ports is for charging. Haven't tested that to know if it is for charging phones or the laptop, but either way it is a nice touch that will get used. The documentation is pretty brief, with the refurb, but not significantly better with the new purchase.

I work on large systems with many programming and database interfaces open at once and process massive files. A real quad core with DDR3 PC3-12800 is perfect for that. With the money I saved, I'm thinking of getting an SSD which should make it about a $1100 machine. I wanted AMD because I didn't see the point of going intel and getting a duo core where the AV, malware programs, and numerous wildly coded services known for looping eat at least one core up immediately. The Intel 4 cores are power hungry and I've seen many poor reviews for battery life. They were also hundreds more. Yes this may be a poor mans base I5-, but then I've got twice as many at the price point and I am sick and tired of bogging down.
