Safes

Important considerations when choosing a safe

Level of protection:

Security: Security Safes feature durable, solid steel construction, concealed internal hinges, and bolt down hardware. Select models feature a Group 2 lock. A Group 2 lock must resist an attack test by a professional locksmith with knowledge of the workings of the safe and using tools such as chisels, pry bars, and a drill for five minutes.

Fire: In additionto security, protect important papers like deeds, wills, stocks, and bonds from fire damage. Documents inside will remain unharmed by heat and flames. The average fire ranges between temperatures of 900øF to 1,200øF for 20 minutes. Paper burns at450øF so while a metal box may survive a fire the contents inside are incinerated. So what do UL protections mean?
1/2 hour UL protection: protects from exposure up to 1,550øF
1 hour UL protection: protects from exposure up to1,700øF
2 hour UL protection: protects from exposure up to 1,850øF

Water: In addition to security and fire protection, waterproof and water resistant fire-safe products offer protection from flood and water damage.

Types of Locks:
Best: Electronic keypads provide superior protection with fast easy access.
Better: Combination locks provide a secure environment for your documents and valuables.
Good: Key locks can provideeither privacy or security depending on the key type and prevent safe lid from opening in a fire.
