if i just wanted to get weight in ounces can this scale do that?

  The Salter Brecknell 35-lb Digital Scale gives the weigh of what is being weighed in pounds and ounces as well as kilograms and grams. While you can not change it to display only in ounces, you can divide the pounds by sixteen to get the number of ounces. The scale is accurate to within 1/10 of an ounce, so it is good for smaller packages as well.
